The higher the better! We suggest using at least 300 DPI for all images. Try to achieve a size of at least 2000 x 3000 pixels.

What dpi setting should I use for scanning?

FAQ for comp.graphics.apps.paint-shop-pro
That depends on what you are scanning. Magazine images should not be scanned at much over 100 dpi, because the ink dots used in the image are about that size (anyone know exactly?) and you will get pre-dithered images if you use a finer scanner setting. Newspapers are coarser still, and I wouldn't try anything finer than 60 dpi. See similar questions...

How can I change the DPI/print resolution of ArtMatic pictures?

Frequently Asked Questions
ArtMatic's images are exported without a DPI setting. When exporting from ArtMatic Pro, enter the pixel dimensions of the image you want. For example, if you want the image to be 4 inches square at 300 dpi, export the image with 1200 pixels by 1200 pixels. In your graphics app, open the picture and set the DPI setting without re-sampling the image. In PhotoShop, open the Image Size dialog and set the print resolution to the desired resolution. What is resolution (dpi/lpi)?

Quotation Request - Quality Print
DPI (dots per inch) and LPI (lines per inch) refer to the definition or potential clarity of the image output. The higher the resolution; the better the possible output. Different media have different resolutions. Check your desktop printer for its specifications. In supplying film to Quality Print resolution is an important point of contention. You will need to know what dpi/lpi is needed. The other spec you will need to know is on what side of the film is the photoemulsion. See similar questions...

What is DPI? What resolution do I need?

ScanDigital - FAQ
DPI stands for dots per inch or pixels per inch. DPI represents the resolution, accuracy, sharpness and clarity of your digital picture. What is the optimum scanning resolution?

Gemega Imaging: Frequently Asked Questions
That depends. If you intend to use the scan to make 4 x 6 prints, a resolution of 1370 DPI (cropped) will capture all the image data 35mm film has to offer at that print size. If you intend to make 8 x 10 prints, then the negative or slide will have to be enlarged or magnified more to cover the larger print area. Consequently, 8 x 10 prints require a scanning resolution of 2662 DPI (cropped) to yield the same print quality as a 4 x 6 print at 1370 DPI. See similar questions...

The inside black and white illustrations have been pen and ink for the Deptford Mice series, black pencil for the Whitby series, and water-colour for the Wyrd Museum. See similar questions...

What type of computer do you use for your illustrations?

Graphic Design and Illustrations by US illustrator Duncan Lo...
Most art people use Apples. I use a PC. Guess there's too much of a rebel in me. In the past, due to the unstable conditions created by the Windows environment, I was really tempted to switch to a Mac. However with XP, I have a very stable system and can continue to use programs I am familiar with (and also avoid shelling out a lot of cash to replace them with Apple versions). In image resolution, what's the difference between, say, 400 dpi true and 400 dpi interpolated?

Frequent Asked Questions
True resolution is the number of dots per inch of reflected light captured by the scanner head. The scanner head is physically limited in the number of dots which it can capture. Interpolation software (usually built in to the scanner, but also available in raster manipulation programs) can make a good guess at what lies between the dots recorded by the scanner. Yes. We don't think that 99% of our customers really need to pay to have their slides scanned at an exceedingly high resolution unless they plan on having prints made that are huge, but we can do it for you. We offer scanning at 3200ppi and 4800ppi for those that have extraordinary needs. Please see our order form for higher resolution scanning. You will have to separate the slides out from your the regular slides and they cannot be intermingled into the slide show with the normal scans.. See similar questions...

What dpi do you use for printing?

Grafikart : : Frequently Asked Questions
We will print with whatever dpi is approved on your files. We recommend that you submit black and white bitmap images scanned at least at 600 dpi, grayscale images at 300 dpi, and full-color photos at 300 dpi for the best possible quality. We output to our digital copier/printers at 600 dpi. If your files were submitted at a different dpi than what we recommend and that resolution has been approved, that is what will print.Back to Top See similar questions...
