Can I breed my dog and have AKC reg. puppies?
FAQYes,unless the puppy has a known fault and should not be bred, in which I would make sure you were aware at the time of purchase, the reg. would be limited and you could not reg.puppies. If there are no apparent faults, then I leave the responsibility up to the new owner. However, I strongly advise you to spay/neuter your pet. My female dog is AKC registered. Shouldn't I breed her?
DFW Dachshund Rescue Foundation | FAQJust because a dog is AKC registered doesn't mean it should be bred. A registered dog simply means that it's parents are also registered with the same registry. This confers no merit in itself, it simply means that the dog's lineage is known. Most registries do not make any assertions of quality in the dogs they register. They do not restrict the breeding of their dogs and there is no guarantee that a "registered" dog is a quality specimen. See similar questions...
