Where do fleas come from?

Fleas
Fleas are everywhere in our environment such as yards, sidewalks, parks, hiking trails, homes, other animals, etc. Once your pet brings fleas inside your home, they live in the carpet, on your pet's bedding, and your furniture. They will breed and multiply and continue to use your pet for their blood meals. They may even bite you. See similar questions...

Will my pet come home with fleas?

Winding Creek Kennels, Inc. - A Distinctive Boarding Facilit...
No, we do not send pets home with fleas. Upon check-in, we inspect each pet thoroughly. If fleas, ticks or evidence of them are found, we must first treat the pet prior to entering the kennel or cattery. In addition we treat the entire facility with a broad spectrum germicidal disinfectant which also repels fleas and other types of insects. See similar questions...

Spray the yard, spray and flea-bomb the house, flea bathe the cat or dog and then use either powders/sprays or one of the new spot-on products (Advantage or Frontline). Yes. We get both cat and dog fleas, which are different. Use pyrethrins in a good program of life-cycle control just as for dogs or cats. Treat the house in preference to putting potentially dangerous chemicals directly on me! See similar questions...

What Can Be Done About Fleas?

FAQ Sick Puppy Tick Fleas Worms Spaying Breeding Training Ly...
Many of the flea control products that are safe on adult dogs are not safe for puppies less than four months of age. Fleas do not stay on your puppy all the time. Occasionally, they will jump off and seek another host, and flea eggs are laid off your dog. Therefore, it is important to kill fleas on your new puppy before they can become established in your house. A flea comb will help isolate any adult fleas your puppy may have. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT FLEAS?

Frequently Asked Questions
Unfortunately, the Frontline and others of its ilk only kill the fleas on the dogs (and perhaps, only when they bite, I'm not sure about that). They do not keep the fleas off, so as long as fleas are in the house they can continue to jump on the dogs. The best solution is a combination of Frontline to kill the fleas that are there and Program to prevent them from reproducing. However, for those of us who are breeders, that doesn't work, as Program seems to interfere with doggie reproduction . See similar questions...

How do I treat for fleas?

FAQ
Flea treatment has two important parts, treating the premise and treating the animal. The premise should be treated by a pest control company or yourself on a monthly basis. All dogs and cats in the home should be treated. We recommend one of the following products: Advantage,Frontline, Flea Dip, Flea Spray. If buying products from the store, be sure the products states that it is safe for cats. If dog products are applied to cats, severe nerve toxicity, seizures, and death can result. More than likely, if your pet has an infestation, it is due to a flea problem in your pets immediate environment. Once a flea population has been established in your house hold there is no quick fix to the problem. First things first, get rid of the fleas ON your pet. The veterinarians here can prescribe a one time medication (Capstar) that will kill most of the fleas that are on your pet, but it only lasts 4-6 hours. See similar questions...

WE ARE BEING BITTEN BY SOMETHING WE CANNOT SEE. COULD IT BE SAND FLEAS?

Mokihana Pest Contol, Inc. Frequently Asked Questions
No. Most incidences of insect bites are caused by organisms that are visible to the naked eye. Fleas require a host such as a dog, cat or rat. As such the most common flea that bites people is the cat flea. They do not spontaneously appear in sand without some connection to a host animal.
