Grace recommends that the Grace Ice & Water Shield is extended a min. of 24"" beyond the inside face of the exterior wall line of a building and should extend from the eave above the highest expected ice damn. Amazingly, quite low: as little as 1/2:12 (1/2" to the foot) for standing seam metal roofs - a definite benefit for many low-pitch applications. Most other roofing systems require minimum pitches of 3:12.

This is a tough question to answer. Although you can definitely install a skylight into most any roof, many skylights leak when installed incorrectly. One of the easiest installations is into Asphalt shingle. Since we use steel roofing almost exclusively, it is more difficult to do. We suggest that if you want a skylight, that you hire a professional roofer to install it. They have the know how and capability to make the flashing you need to make it function properly.

Solar reflectivity (or reflectance) is the fraction of the solar energy that is reflected by the surface (i.e., roofing membrane) back to the sky. White membranes have the highest solar reflectivity, while black have the lowest. Highly reflective roofs lower roof surface temperature.

Infrared emissivity (or emittance) is a measure of the ability of a surface to shed some of its heat (in the form of infrared radiation) away from the surface (i.e., roofing membrane). High infrared emissivity helps keep surfaces cool. Metallic surfaces have a low infrared emissivity. Low-sloped (<2:12) non-residential roofs must meet the new requirement when half of the roof or 2,000 sq.ft. (whichever is less) is being reroofed.
