The usual reason for this is that your password on Windows XP is different to your password on UNIX, or that your password has a euro symbol or pound sign in. If this is the case, follow the instructions here to change your password(s) and then log out and back in again.

Each student, faculty, and staff member at E&H has a size limitation for file storage on the file server. This limit is 500MB for students and 800MB for faculty and staff. Once this limit is reached you, will be denied access to write any more information to your H: drive.

Your H: drive mapping is an area on one of our servers where you can backup important files. Files kept there are backed up onto tape nightly. Don't copy everything you have there though because space is limited.

Answer: Recently some laptop users reported they are unable to connect or login to the Trent network now but, it was working prior to taking the machine home. The likely problem is that the machines were updated with XP SP2 over the holidays while they were connected to the users home network. To quickly remedy this problem the user has to go into "Add/Remove Programs" and remove the XP-SP2 update and reboot.

For security reasons this facility has been blocked but you can still access your files using webfolders. The VPN service only supports IP traffic, so servers using IPX are not accessible. Please note that IPX and Appletalk are being phased out across campus in favour of an IP only network.

If work is either highly confidential or generally of no interest to others then g: drive is the best place for it. All email is stored on a personal G: drive. Otherwise the best place for work is on an H: drive available to a suitable number of people in your department. Managers and Heads of Departments should consider how much data an individual user should store in their own personal area unavailable to others versus storage in a shared area.
