SPEA does not require a foreign language for either the BSPA or BSPH degrees. For BSES students, eight hours of a foreign language is required for degree completion.

Answer: The Stony Brook ATP is structured so that the application process is completed during the spring semester of sophomore year, however a junior or senior-level student may apply when the required prerequisite coursework is completed.

All academic scholarship recipients are expected to maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA to renew their scholarship each year. Leadership scholarship recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Music scholarship recipients must achieve a 2.5 overall GPA and a 3.0 in their applied music field.

We feel that students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate education will be better prepared to fully take advantage of the opportunities in this program. A Junior Audit is required for graduation. The audit is a review of the courses you have completed and are currently taking. You initiate the Junior Audit during your Junior year (60 credit hours) by completing your major check sheet and submitting it to your Faculty Advisor for review and a signature. The audit is then forwarded to the College Office for review by a College Advisor. A detailed letter will be prepared informing you exactly what requirements you must complete to earn your degree.

There are many factors, which determine the timetable for such an achievement. Mastery of material, attendance, ability to instruct, attitude, and other requirements must be met. Generally, if all requirements are met, it takes between 3 to 6 years. Junior black belts must re-examined for senior black belt after they turn 16.

A student who wishes to enroll for no credit may register as an auditor. An auditor pays regular fees and, at the discretion of the instructor, must meet all regular class requirements. A student who audits a course will not receive a grade or credit for that course. Changing from audit to credit or from credit to audit must be done by filing the necessary forms before the filing deadline printed in the current class schedule.

There is a prom in the spring of each year. Prom is for Juniors and Seniors. Underclassmen may attend if they are the date of a Junior or Senior. This event is held off-campus at a site to be determined. There is also an "after prom" event called "Project Prom." This gives the students the opportunity to have fun in a safe, alcohol and drug-free environment. This event is also chaperoned by faculty and parents.

A few workshops will be dedicated specifically to junior administrators (those relatively new to higher education), while some will be geared primarily toward senior administrators (seasoned professionals in higher education). This is a new effort on our part to respond to the different needs and interests of these groups. Not all workshops will have this feature, but be sure to read carefully so that you go to a workshop that is appropriate for your level of experience.

If courses on your audit do not have the grades you expect, or if the courses do not appear in the place that you expected to see them, you need to talk to your academic advisor. Your advisor can authorize the Registrar's office to make adjuctments and subsitutions in your audit.
