Crappie are not usually recommended in bass ponds under 100 surface acres. A prolific spawner, crappie in small bodies of water will usually compete directly with bass for food and produce not only slow-growing crappie but slow-growing bass as well. They are also known to reduce small bass survival by preying directly on young bass. You may know of a pond with both good size bass and crappie, but these are rare.

Not likely. Opossums are rather lazy and will always seek out readily available food whenever possible. It is not generally industrious enough to catch fish or try to attack an animal that might fight back. The disappearance of fish or chickens is more likely due to a racoon, fox, or badger. If you see an opossum eating your fish, most likely it came across the remains that another creature left behind on the bank.

Yes. Fish and snails play a vital part in maintaining cleanliness of a pond. The fish will eat the mosquito larvae and the snails are extremely good at cleaning the pond sides. Both these animals can be destructive if they breed to excess or grow too large. They can then start eating the plant life, which will cause the water to become dirty quickly.
