Is the Pearson Triton big enough for offshore cruising?

Atom Voyages | Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Some people think the 28-foot Triton is too small with too little freeboard to cruise offshore and be comfortable to live aboard. The main reason the average size cruising yacht these days is around 40-foot long is because people find they need that space to contain all the equipment and gadgets the yachting press and their neighbors in the marina have told them they can't do without.

If Pearson still has the moves, more power to him. I'm just not sure I'm qualified to write that story either. See similar questions...

How big is the wind resource offshore?

BWEA - Offshore Frequently Asked Questions
The wind energy resource at sea is extremely large, and the UK has one of the highest in the world with over 33% of the total European potential. In fact, the UK's offshore resource is equivalent to three times the UK's annual electricity consumption. Conservative calculations show that offshore wind alone could meet the 10% target by 2010. Offshore wind speeds are generally higher than coastal wind speeds. Ten kilometres from the shore, speeds are typically around one metre per second higher. See similar questions...

It is important. Not only does the seminar prepare you for the expedition, but if you are planning an offshore cruise on your own boat the seminar will save you time and money. How can I get started cruising?

Atom Voyages | Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I often am asked this question and it's impossible to give one set of guidelines helpful for everyone. People want to know: What type or size boat do I need? How do I learn to sail? What does cruising cost? What equipment should I have? and so on. If you've read much on this site you'll already know that I stand outside the mainstream on most of these issues and you'll have to view my advice as just my opinion based on my own cruising style which has slowly evolved and will continue to evolve. How did you stop the deck leaks in your Triton?

Atom Voyages | Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Some east coast built Tritons suffer from waterlogged balsa-cored decks. Water enters through leaking deck fittings and eventually rots the balsa core, causing it to delaminate. The first symptoms are leaks at chainplates, stanchion bases, and jib-sheet tracks. Eventually, the core breaks down entirely and feels spongy underfoot. I tried every known type of repair without lasting success until I realized the only permanent cure is to replace the core and upper layer of deck. See similar questions...

Can I call someone when cruising?

Frequently Asked Questions about Cruising Alaska
Ship to Shore calls are possible on all cruise lines, but they cost a pretty penny. My suggestion is to try to wait to call on your cell phone when in port or use a pay phone. Most cell phones work while your in port. See similar questions...

What is your favorite cruising area?

Atom Voyages | Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Another short answer would usually be: right here, right now. No place I have seen is perfect in every way. Either it's marred because it's too crowded, too expensive, the weather's too cold or the typhoon season is long and sultry, the anchorages are rolly, or a thousand other imperfections. What might be enjoyable for a week or a month may also be insufferable to you after a year. See similar questions...

How do you manage your links to shore while cruising?

Atom Voyages | Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
For many people this is a challenging problem to overcome. I've been lucky in that up until now when I have been outside the US, which has been most of my life, my mother has been willing to do my mail forwarding, banking transactions and store a couple boxes of personal effects I didn't think I could part with. I wonder now how I would have managed without that support. See similar questions...

What's the best cruising boat?

Draft rec.boats.cruising FAQ
The best cruising boat is the one that suits your needs. There are so many cruising different lifestyles, so many destinations, that the boat perfect for one might fall down flat on the other. For example, consider an expensive Hinckley Bermuda 40, designed to survive all but the severest of storms, a magnificent creation created to survive the intense stress of a lifetime of cruising. Take that supposedly ideal boat, and put it next to a relatively cheap Hunter. See similar questions...

How can I tell if cruising is right for me?

Draft rec.boats.cruising FAQ
You should probably join a sailing club, an organization that starts by teaching you how to sail, and then allows you to charter their boats by the day. That way, you can get your feet wet in the activity without committing yourself to the purchase of an expensive boat and equipment. Another way is to find a friend with a boat and go out with her or him to see what you think of being out on the water. See similar questions...

What is your cruising speed?

FAQ
We cruise at between 1800 rpm which gives us 8.7kts through still water, and 1900 rpm which gives us 9.2kts. These speeds vary a tenth or so depending on whether we have full fuel and water. As we get lighter, they pick up a bit. We have become very comfortable cruising at the 9kt pace. Sometimes we will crank it up to 2000 and see 9.6 when there is a particularly long day in store for us. See similar questions...

What kind of projects are most suitable for offshore development, big or small?

Offshore Software Development Company Intelligence-Soft - Fr...
Both. If your company has only small programming tasks from time to time, then by delegating the work to offshore team you will save your time and money because in this case you don't need to hire domestic professionals having skills and experience necessary to each project. With big projects you profit even more by the occasion of using offshore development team assigned to work exclusively with your project and manage this team as your own personnel.
