No. The blue and gold tassel is a souvenir. Your commencement tassel will be provided with your cap and gown rental or may be purchased separately if you already have a gown.

Wear your most festive Blue and Gold. If the reunion is held outside, please check the weather and dress accordingly.

Return rental gowns by June 2 to avoid late charges. You can also return them by July 2 for a $10 late fee.

All graduates must wear the SCC blue gown to march. A complete kit of cap, gown, and tassel is available in the bookstore (3rd floor, Balsam center) for about $45. Other than the blue gown, there are no specific requirements for shoes or dress.

The tassel should hang on the right. During the ceremony, you will be instructed to move your tassel to the left side to show you have graduated.

Your academic gown is black and made of a synthetic fabric blend. Your cap comes with elastic in the hat for a flexible fit, so count on it to give you "hat hair." Footwear should be comfortable enough to tolerate standing for a long time, walking on uneven surfaces, and going up and down stairs. Bare feet are not permitted.

Yes! Please make sure to wear your cap and gown to the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Commencement Celebration. Your cap and gown may be purchased from Campus Photo Studio/Graduation Etc., in person on "A" level of Ackerman Union (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) or online. In addition, you can buy graduation portrait packages, graduation announcements, frames, plaques and covers for your diploma, graduation cards, gifts and a variety of UCLA merchandise there as well.

The Service Dress Blue (SDB) uniform is authorized for wear year-round. It is the equivalent of civilian “suit-and-tie.” It may be worn when in travel status, while attending official meetings, on recruiting visits, when representing the PHS, while participating in ceremonial activities, or in other appropriate circumstances. All officers are required to own and maintain a SDB uniform.

The gold items we sell are 22 karat in purity, which is 91.6 percent gold in any metal, although the diamond jewelry is finished in 18 karat gold which is 75.0 percent gold in any metal, there is also some precious stone jewelry which is made in 21 karat gold purity. The lower karat is mostly used for precious stones to maintain the hardness in metal so the stones can be more securely held in the gold casings.

Aerogel has a blue cast for the same reason that the sky is blue. The very small particles that compose the aerogel scatter blue light, the same as our atmosphere scatters blue light. Similarly, when you look through the aerogel the light appears yellowish or reddish, like that of a sunrise or sunset.
