Q.: Can I test grid controls via TestComplete scripts?

General Information
A.: Yes, you can record and run TestComplete scripts that simulate user actions with grid controls. To learn more about this, see Working With Grids in TestComplete 3 or Grid Samples for TestComplete 4. A.: Yes, TestComplete can simulate mouse clicks, key presses, and so on, within the console window. However, these applications cannot be tested as Open Applications. See similar questions...

Q.: My program uses custom controls. Can TestComplete test them?

Accessing Application Internals
A.: Yes, TestComplete works with custom controls by simulating mouse clicks and key presses on any window. To work with Win32 controls, TestComplete uses special program objects - Win32Toolbar, Win32Menu, and so on. It is recommended to map the class names of custom controls to these objects. This allows you to call specific methods and properties for custom controls. See similar questions...

Can I test WPF (XAML) controls with TestComplete?

TestComplete FAQ - Accessing Application Internals
A.: Yes, TestComplete version 5 introduces support for WPF (XAML) controls and applications. You can test WPF controls the same way you test Win32 or .NET controls - by simulating keystrokes and mouse clicks over them. TestComplete also provides access to private, protected and public fields, properties and methods of the controls. To work with XAML controls, TestComplete uses special program objects - WPFMenu, WPFToolbar, WPFButton and others. They correspond to controls of the System.Windows. See similar questions...

Q.: Can I test PowerBuilder applications with TestComplete?

General Information
A.: TestComplete does not have special support for PowerBuilder applications: it does not recognize controls inside data windows and it is not possible to make a PowerBuilder application an Open Application. You can only test these applications in black box mode. See similar questions...

Q.: TestComplete does not recognize some controls, like labels, on my form. Why?

Accessing Application Internals
A.: Its possible that you are testing a non-Open Application. When you test a "closed" application, TestComplete needs to "know" which window it should address with mouse clicks and key presses. Some controls like TLabel and TImage in Delphi and C++Builder, or Label and Image in Visual Basic, are non-window controls. They are drawn on the canvas of the form. To check whether the control is windowed or not, open the Object Browser. See similar questions...

Q.: What compilers does TestComplete support? What applications can it test?

General Information
A.: With TestComplete you can test any Windows application through the application's UI. Script routines simulate mouse movements, clicks, key presses and other user actions through Windows messages. This way of testing does not depend on any compiler. It is called functional or "black box" testing. For Web pages and for applications created with Delphi, C++Builder, Visual Basic, Visual C++, Java and . See similar questions...

Q.: How can I test Compact .NET Framework applications with TestComplete?

General Information
A.: Both Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 and Visual Studio 2005 let you create, run and debug Windows CE applications targeting the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework. For further reference, we will call them Windows CE .NET applications. To run these applications under a Win32 platform, you can either use the Windows CE device emulator (which is built into Visual Studio), or run the application as a Win32 application (provided that you have Microsoft .NET Framework v. 1.0. Q.: How can I get data from a control? Is it possible to capture data in grid controls?

Accessing Application Internals
A.: Getting data from a control depends on the control type. To get data from simple controls, you can use methods and properties provided by TestComplete. For instance, if you want to get text from a third-party combo box or edit box, you can use the wText property of the Win32ComboBox or Win32Edit controls. If you test an "ordinary" non-Open Application, you can create a COM object that will retrieve data from the control and then pass it to TestComplete or save it to a file. See similar questions...

DPIW - Tasmanian Devil - FAQs
The greatest current threat to numbers across Tasmania is the Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD). It’s a fatal condition that is restricted to devils, characterised by cancers around the mouth and head. In 1996, Tasmanian devils were photographed in north-east Tasmania with what were apparently large tumours on their faces. Do you test your scripts and how?

Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP Security Patch Scripts
I used to use Ghost images of all the platform variants (NT 4.0 Workstation SP6a, NT 4.0 Server SP6a, Windows 2000 Pro SP3, etc.), but I eventually decided to use virtual machines (VMware) instead. This allows me to run patch checks on an unpatched machine, run the scripts against it, verify patch levels to see if anything was missing, then "rebuild" the entire OS by copying a file to do it all over again. It's my life story. See similar questions...

Q: Is there any way to know which sprites have scripts attached without editing each one to check?

D-Mod Author's FAQ Revision 1.3
A: Yes. In sprite edit mode (or even tile edit mode), hold the I key down. Several red and black boxes will appear. They won't always be centered over their respective sprites, but it gives you a general idea. This shows whether each sprite is hard or not, and what script (if any) is attached. This is good for locating places where you "accidentally" put scripts on sprites that weren't supposed to have them. I accidentally put a treasure chest script on some trees in Dink's Doppelganger..
