What's the difference between 720p and 1080i/p HD broadcasts?

HDTV - Frequently Asked Questions(FAQs)
A native resolution of 720p is considered High Definition. The numbers 720 and 1080 refer to horizontal pixel counts, while the letters p and i refer to the picture-scanning method--either progressive or interlaced. Proponents of 1080i HD will tell you that they offer the most lines of resolution, which is true. However, 1080i images are interlaced, meaning only half of the image is refreshed in one pass(30 passes per second).

What is the difference between 720p and 1081i HD broadcasts?

HDTV FAQ - HD TV Plasma and LCD or DLP FAQ
To the human eye, the difference between the two HDTV formats is barely discernible. The "p" in 720p refers to progressive scan, while the "i" in 1080 refers to interlaced. Progressive scans draw every frame in a single pass, while interlaced scanning draws the picture in two passes: one for odd-numbered lines and one for even numbered. Though 1080i provides a higher number of resolution lines, the progressive scan of the 720 format provides what some have called a smoother picture. See similar questions...

HD is not transferable like the flue. In my opinion I feel that it is hereditary through genes. Many doctors say that's true then there are some that say it is just luck of the draw.. In many cases there is a trace of HD in the family somewhere. It may have been four generations back, but it was still there. You have to remember that there was no name of Hirschsprung's Disease way back then. So there was no way to detect that it may be hereditary. See similar questions...

So what's the difference between component inputs and HD component inputs?

FAQ
Good question. Standard component inputs are limited in the amount of picture information they can receive. They cannot receive progressive-scan DVD information, nor can they receive HDTV information, in a way that will display the 480p progressive scan image or the 720p/1080i HD image. To transmit these higher-level signals, your TV or HDTV monitor must have at least an HD component input capability. When you're shopping for a TV, LOOK CAREFULLY at the type of inputs it has.
