Detailed current measurements show a number of different flows in the Kaipara depending upon the tidal extremes of tidal cycle (spring to neap). The flow is asymetric meaning that the ebb and flood are not identical in direction. The tidal current varies between 1.6 and 2.5 metres per second (up to nine kilometres per hour or five knots). The areas of strongest current are to the west of the harbour mouth.

If you like the enjoyment of a drift dive, you can choose to dive some of the sites that provide a convenient, and sometimes strong, current. It is important to dive with a knowledgeable local dive guide even if you are a professional because of the very strong tides and down currents at certain sites at certain tides and times of the year. If not though, you can easily choose to dive a vast number of dive sites that have little or no currents.

No. With both biofeedback and EEG neurofeedback, the sensors will only be transmitting information from you to the feedback equipment. Feedback only comes back to you as visual and auditory signals from the computer's monitor and speakers or headset.

Laminating the core reduces the heat loss. The core is made out of strips of metal, separated by lacquer or other insulator, so the area of the eddy currents is reduced. Consequently, the flux and therefore the Faraday emf are smaller, so smaller eddy currents flow. You may notice transformers buzzing at 100 Hz (near G at the bottom of the bass clef) as the laminations all become electromagnets 100 times per second.

The most useful sort of electromagnetic braking is what is called regenerative braking. This is used in trains and some other electric vehicles. To decelerate, the electric motor is used as a generator and converts the train's kinetic energy back to electrical energy which is fed back in to the grid. Great for energy conservation, and engineers try to maximise this. However, this is not really eddy current braking, because 'eddy currents' is usually used only when the currents waste energy.

Proximity switches often involve eddy currents. These switches have the advantage that they have no (internal) moving parts or electrical contacts. This is an advantage because springs and bearings can wear out and because electrical contacts can become corroded. Proximity switches are activated by the proximity of a conductor, such as a human finger. You will have noticed them in the control panels of lifts, for example.

In some places and sometimes yes, there are strong currents however these places are rare during daily diving. In some places such as the Thistlegorm wreck, you count on currents be present but depending on the time of day you dive this area will depend on the current strength, any where from mild up to moderately strong. There is no regulatory agency standard for this, primarily because of the great variety of designs and materials by every manufacturer in every industry. Different amounts of current will be drawn in normal construction of any product, from manufacturer to manufacturer. So we recommend that an initial test sample of known good products be drawn (probably at least 32 pieces for a good statistical sample).
