Table Aquarium FAQsFor some reason most aquariums gallon size is calculated on the tank's outside dimensions. For a coffee table aquarium, this calcualtion includes the air gap between the top of the water and the glass top. Actual water capacity is usually a few gallons less than "advertised" or "rated" size. We try and provide both the actual and the advertised capacities in our aquarium descriptions. Q.: Why has the Aquarium been closed down?
Friends of Belle Isle Aquarium - Frequently asked questionsA.: For almost a decade, Detroit Zoo Director Ron Kagan espoused that the Aquarium was old, worn out and loosing attendance. Based on Dr. Kagan's advice, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, dealing with an enormous budget crunch was swayed by this argument to eliminate the Aquarium's annual $500,000 budget. Dr. Kagan's motivation for closing the Aquarium might have been his expressed desire to build a new 'Super-Aquarium' on the Detroit Riverfront. See similar questions...

How can I make the water in my aquarium clear again if it is cloudy?
Exotic Aquarium on the Web...The "beneficial" or good bacteria growing in the experiment should keep the water from being cloudy, but "bad" bacteria will cause it to cloud. Mainly you may have to change part of the water (use tap water but put conditioner drops in to remove chlorine or let it stand out overnight). Also you need to correct WHY it became cloudy. If you have too many fish/too big of a fish in too small of a container you need to move the experiment to something bigger. If you are feeding them, feed them less. See similar questions...
Does my aquarium have to be a salt-water environment?
Ocean Treasures CollectionNo, your aquarium is equipped with an advanced filtration system that allows you to run your aquarium as a fresh water or salt water environment. If you desire to maintain a fresh-water aquarium, you must incorporate fresh water fish and simply do not add the pre-measured synthetic salt or “live” sand, if purchased. You will need to purchase an approved gravel from your local aquarium dealer since the “live” sand is salt based and cultured from the ocean. See similar questions...

What can an aquarium be in?
Natural Aquarium FAQsWell in some ways it can be in any non-toxic container that can hold water, but some things just work better than others. I prefer glass tanks. But I'm old fashioned. Most of my tanks are the plain old rectangular glass fish tanks. There are a lot of fancy new tanks with bowed fronts and different shapes. Most tanks are pretty well suited to do the job. Extra tall tanks should usually be avoided but they can be used sometimes if the extra height is taken into consideration. See similar questions...

Ocean Treasures CollectionNo, DO NOT conduct a water change during your routine cleaning schedule. Note: a water change is different from replenishing the naturally evaporated water in your tank. Which Morton products can be added directly to a salt water aquarium?
Morton?Salt - when it rains it pours? For salt water fish, Morton recommends using commercially prepared seawater (marine) mixtures, as they should contain the proper ratio of trace minerals. Morton does not make a product specific for salt water aquariums. Morton® White Crystal® Solar Salt is not a sea salt obtained from evaporation of ocean water to dryness.
