You do not require a serial number, nor an Activation key to run a demo compiler. After installing the compiler, your Windows START menu will contain a program called "Compiler Activation". Don't be misled! This is not the compiler, nor do you need to use this application in order to access the demo compiler. The star after the serial number is a replacement note that was issued to take the place of a defective note that was discovered. Using the * ('asterisk'=SHIFT-8) key will get it into the system. In case your hardware key is not reachable or it doesn't have the serial number tag on it, just go to Control Panel on the machine where it is plugged-in, double-click the WIBU-Key icon and the number will be shown as a subnode of the USB branch. An example of a serial number is "8-12345678". It always starts with a single number and a dash. The number in the beginning can be 6, 7, 8 or 9. And after the dash there must be 7 or 8 numbers.

The only way to change the property name and serial number once registered is to delete the file completely and re-register the item. This is why it is very important to enter the correct name and serial number during the registration process.
