These questions reflect some basic misunderstandings about how the travel distribution system works and what being a home-based travel is all about. You actually don’t need any of these things to be a home-based travel agent. You can get them (or some of them) but you don’t really need them.

ARC (Airlines Reporting Corporation) and IATA (International Air Transportation Association) are two organizations that control the flow of funds between suppliers, agencies and consumers. They issue numbers to qualified organizations which are then recognized by suppliers in order to issue tickets, sell products and earn commissions. You must meet certain requirements to obtain an ARC or IATA number.

Yes. All of our experienced agents receive a CLIA card after completing at least one cruise booking. You are eligible for the IATAN card once you have generated a minimum of $5000.00 in commissions within a 12 month period. If you are on target to generate $5000.00 per year in commission we will issue you a 6 month interim card so you don't have to wait. If you have never been on an IATAN list, there is a 6 month waiting period in addition to the above commission requirements.

In order to obtain an IATA/IATAN card you must prove that you have earned a certain amount in commissions. Once you have met this quota, you are free to obtain your card. This regulation is monitored by IATA.

Yes, if you need to travel before receiving your ID card then we can send you a letter to verify your status as a travel agent with us. This letter is provided with your ID card that you will receive via regular mail, however if you need one sent to you before the Travel Agent ID card comes then please contact our customer service department. Note: this is a temporary option that may or may not be sufficient depending on the specific travel provider you are attempting to book with.)

Anywhere from 5-10 days but please allow up to 2 weeks to receive your Travel Agent ID card from the time we receive your photo.

Your Travel Agent ID card is valid for one year from the date of issue and in order to renew there is an annual option for $99. (which is commissionable)

Yes, you can earn an IATAN card, provided you meet IATAN eligibility requirements. Travel Services Intermediary (TSI) and CLIA ID cards are also available subject to their requirements.

Eventually, all LakerCards will be replaced with a card which will have your LakerID number printed on it for your convenience. This replacement card will be provided at no cost to the cardholder. Subsequent replacement cards will be provided for a $5.00 replacement fee. this time, various methods of re-carding the campus are being considered. When the process has been determined, the campus will be notified.

Joystar received its official ARC approval on Wednesday, February 8, 2006. The following identification numbers should be used when conducting business with travel suppliers if you'd like us to track and process your commissions.
