What are lifting straps?

EliteFitness.com - Underground Bodybuilding, Fitness and Ste...
Lifting straps are worn around the wrist and wrapped tightly around the bar. They are usually made out of a heavy cloth and have an open loop at one end, so a loop may be made and your hand placed through it. This allow you to lift more weight than your grip can handle. Usually done while working the back, such as deadlifts, various rows, pull-[ups/downs], and sometimes curls. Treat these similar to lifting belts. Use them as a lifting aid for your heavy sets.

What is lifting?

A-1 nails...at your fingertips Nail Salon
Lifting is when the acrylic loosens from the nail plate, usually at the base of the nail. This can be caused by several factors. Improper preparation of nail plate prior to acrylic application, hands in water more than normal, or free edge too long causing too much pressure at the base of the nail are a few of the reasons. Whatever the cause, it must be taken care of to prevent breakage or mold. Call your nail technician for repair. See similar questions...

Should I use a lifting belt?

PSU Fitness: FAQs
In most cases a lifting belt is not needed. Using a belt all the time actually weakens the abdominal muscles and the lower back, by making them work less. Weight belts are suggested when doing max squats or heavy lifting above the head. See similar questions...

Q54: How tight should my harness straps be?

Child Carseat Safety FAQ
Harness straps should be snug with no slack, but not so tight as to be uncomfortable. The top straps should be on the shoulders, and some prefer to say that you should not be able to "pinch an inch" or get more than a finger in between the shoulder and the strap. The lower straps in a 5-point harness should be fairly tight across the thighs (not on the tummy). A tight harness can prevent ejection, and also can increase the ride-down time to reduce the chance of crash injury. See similar questions...

Can I use Tiki 30-style webbing straps on the Tiki 31?

James Wharram Designs -Home of the self-build Catamaran.
The webbing straps on the Tiki 30 were introduced to get a very speedy way of assembling the boat, so it could help with easy trailering. For ocean going use I don't know if it is the best way - rope lashings have certainly proven themselves there. You probably know there is a fleet of Tiki 30s on Lake Kariba (Zimbabwe) using the webbing straps. The advantage of the lashings is that they run around a block on the side of the hull creating only shear stresses on the glue joints and fastenings. See similar questions...

Does it matter what kind of straps I use with my crash cymbals?

Zildjian.com - en-US
Yes! The cymbal straps are an integral part of your cymbal playing. The wrong kind of straps can not only be uncomfortable for your hands, but can disrupt the sound production of the cymbal. The straps should be tied in a secure knot and checked periodically for any rips or tears. It is generally not recommended to use the large pads that can be placed over the straps to shield your hands from the cymbals, as they will dampen the sound. See similar questions...

What type of routine should I use when lifting weights?

EliteFitness.com - Underground Bodybuilding, Fitness and Ste...
There are many routines that people use. The "best" one is the one that fits your schedule and gives you adequate rest. There are many variables to each routine, how often, how much rest, what exercises, when to cycle, etc. All of these are very different for everyone. Experiment, try them all, make up your own, find what works for you and stick with it. Why use lifting tape, rather than standard cords, for Roman style shades?

SM Automatic - Motorization for Interior Window Treatments
Using lifting tape that rolls uniformly on take up reels, guarantees even and level shade operation. Using the standard cords to roll up on the motorized tube will not do that, and virtually assures that the bottom of the shade will rarely be level. See similar questions...

Q55: Does it matter if my harness straps are all twisted?

Child Carseat Safety FAQ
Yes. The more the straps twist, the less area of strap is available to restrain the child in a crash. This means more pressure will be applied to the child, and could result in burns or more serious injury. It is a good idea to untwist the straps after each use. Some models have straps that do not twist. See similar questions...

What are the compression straps for?

JanSport - Frequently Asked Questions
The closer your load is to your center of gravity the more comfortable it will be to carry. When packs are not completely full (like near the end of a trip after you have eaten most of the food) they tend to sag backward. The compression straps pull the load into your back and make great places to lash more gear onto the pack. Keep in mind, though, that anything lashed to the outside will be far from the center of gravity, so light items like foam pads work best here. See similar questions...

In Canada, there are no specific, federal regulations, such as a Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standard, that apply to Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices. Provincial regulations vary between the jurisdictions.
