How much milk does a dairy goat give?

Faithful Farm Nubian Dairy Goats: FAQ
This varies greatly depending upon the breed of goat and the individual goat within that breed. Nubians are known for high quality, high butterfat milk but with less volume than some of the other breeds. Young, first freshening does will give less than a doe who is 3 to 4 years old and at the peak of her production. Does also give more milk in the first few months after freshening and then production may gradually decline. Milk is measured by weight (pounds) rather than by volume (gallons).

Why are goat milk products more expensive to buy?

Welcome to Redwood Hill Farm
There are several reasons that goat milk products are more expensive. 1, goat dairies get no government price supports or subsidies so that they must charge the actual cost of production. 2, milking goats is more labor intensive than milking cows since it takes 10 goats to give the milk of one cow. 3, most goat dairies are family farms not having the economy of scale of very large, corporate farms. Frequently Asked Questions About Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats ...
The first time I had this question, I didn't understand what the person was asking. I have since answered this question many times! No, there is not a special feed or drug you can give them to force them to make milk. See similar questions...

Welcome to Redwood Hill Farm
Most people that are allergic to cow milk products or who are lactose intolerant can use goat milk products. How does eating dairy products (e.g., milk, cheese and ice cream) harm cows?

Untitled
Like all mammals, cows only produce milk after giving birth to feed their babies. In order to keep them lactating year-round, farmers artificially inseminate dairy cows and force them to give birth every year, which is not their natural behavior. A cow's gestation period is the same as that of a human mother, and each cow is expected to produce milk during seven of her pregnancy's nine months. See similar questions...

The dairy uses a larger supply dimension : the milk catchment area is broadened and sometimes appeals are made for an “emergency” supply potentially from a distance further away, and from sources over which there is no control. Question 15: When making my own yoghurt or quark, can I use goat's milk?

Healing Cancer Naturally: Dr. Johanna Budwig's Diet & Healin...
Dr. Budwig refers to dairy without mentioning goat milk (at least I have not read it), perhaps due to the fact that goat milk is not traditionally used in Germany though she does mention sheep's milk as being ok. Since goat milk fat is different and is generally seen as healthier, it could be the exception, but I don't know. In case of cancer, I would stick with the low fat principle of the Budwig Diet.
