How does NMR Work?
Wilmad-Labglass :: NMR/EPR FAQsNMR samples and a known reference material are subjected together to an applied external magnetic field and measured by a spectrophotometer to create a spectra graph. The NMR spectra is characterized by the frequency at which the proton absorbs in the field of the magnet.
What is NMR?
Wilmad-Labglass :: NMR/EPR FAQsNMR(Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) is the study of molecular structure through measurements of the absorption of radio frequency by the nuclei that are exposed to a strong magnetic field. See similar questions...
My NMR sample is light sensitive. Which NMR tube should I use?
Wilmad-Labglass :: NMR/EPR FAQsOrder amber NMR tubes. Amber tubes give added protection against light exposure between the wavelengths of 300 to 800nm. Our 5-mm NMR 535-PP Tube is 5.0-mm OD and has a 0.38mm wall thickness. The volume of a cylinder 4.24-mm diameter (the tube ID) x H height (mm) is Allowing for the fact that the bottom end of the tube approximates a half-sphere will give a truer volume calculation and yields the formula: If you need this much precision, be sure to allow for miniscus effects in determining H. Does the NMR measure the stream property directly, or is it a correlation?
Process NMR FAQNMR uses correlative methodologies similar to other spectroscopic measurements (i.e. NIR ? near infra-red spectroscopy), however, certain measurements can be made by measuring the stream properties directly. Typically, NMR analyzes the hydrogen nuclei in the sample to produce a spectrum of chemical information that describes the chemistry of the stream. See similar questions...
How does NIR / FTIR modelling compare with NMR?
Process NMR FAQFor NIR, one model per property, per stream is necessary. In many cases NMR needs only one model per property irrespective of number of streams. This greatly simplifies NMR modelling. Since NMR also includes a lot of process variation in its models, the models themselves are more robust and will not require the maintenance that NIR/FTIR needs. Model build time is also greatly reduced, meaning that NMR can get the analyzer on line and producing faster. See similar questions...
What is the shelf life for an NMR Reference Standard?
Wilmad-Labglass :: NMR/EPR FAQsIf the standard is kept in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight it should be good for 5 years. I am looking for a long thin-walled tube, 8 inches long. I think this means 0.38mm. Would you recommend a thick or thin walled tube? We are using thin walled tubes from another supplier at the moment but they break in the probe. Wilmad 5mm Precision NMR tubes have a 0.38mm wall thickness. Our 5mm Economy tubes have a .43mm wall thickness. See similar questions...
I am doing Boron NMR. What kind of sample tube should I use?
Wilmad-Labglass :: NMR/EPR FAQsWe suggest the Clear Fused Quartz or the Suprasil Synthetic Quartz tubes. Quartz does not contain enough Boron to produce interference. See similar questions...
How do I submit X-ray and NMR structures to the PDB?
Deposition FAQADIT is available at http://deposit.pdb.org/adit/ (RCSB PDB) and at http://pdbdep.protein.osaka-u.ac.jp/adit (PDBj) and PDBj ADIT-NMR is available at http://nmradit.protein.osaka-u.ac.jp/bmrb-adit (PDBj). RCSB ADIT-NMR is available at http://batfish.bmrb.wisc.edu/bmrb-adit. Structures may also be deposited using AutoDep at the European Bioinformatics Institute at http://autodep.ebi.ac.uk/ (MSD/EBI). Detailed instructions for depositing structures solved by X-ray crystallography, NMR, EM, etc. See similar questions...
How can I run a VT-NMR?
SIL FAQIn the same page where the spin is set (see the 400MHz and 500MHz Varian NMR Simple Instructions guide), the temperature can be set. A limit on the instrument has been set so that the temperature cannot be set above 60 ° C, so contact Lew Cary or the SIL TA if a temperature above this limit is required. See similar questions...
Is NMR technology new?
Process NMR FAQA: NMR spectrometers have been used for many years as a primary laboratory analytical method. On-line high resolution NMR systems have been used for real-time process applications since 1995. Current technology offers a wide range of applications across numerous industries including petroleum, petrochemical, food and beverage, and, pharma. See similar questions...
What is unique about NMR technology?
Process NMR FAQA: NMR technology offers tremendous analytical measurement flexibility, non-invasive/non-optical sampling, rapid and precise analysis, and high system availability. See similar questions...

What are good applications for the NMR analyzer?
Process NMR FAQApplications providing the best return on investment are those where NMR-enhanced APC or optimization is applied. These are provided as solutions rather than as a list of products and services. Solutions that have been recognized as having best ROI are those with: complex processes, high energy costs, or, significant downstream impact, if process control is not tightly maintained. How is the NIR different from the NMR analyzer?
Process NMR FAQThe NIR analyzer is very sensitive to changes in sample temperature and uses the 3rd harmonic overtone as the basis of the NIR analysis. This means all of the spectra appear similar to a large extent, and extensive mathematical data manipulation are needed to find a difference in NIR analyzer output before any models can be built. Spectrometer repeatability and stability is critical if the calibrations are to going to produce meaningful and repeatable results. See similar questions...
What is the expected NMR analyzer availability (uptime)?
Process NMR FAQWhat sets NMR apart from competing analyzers is its long-term reliability and reduced life cycle (maintenance) costs. Another significant advantage of the analyzer is its relatively simple construction. It utilizes highly dependable electronic circuits, contains very few moving parts, requires very little field maintenance, and supports remote calibration and system diagnostics. These attributes contribute to system availability that typically exceeds 95 percent. See similar questions...
What utilities must the user provide for NMR installation?
Process NMR FAQCurrently, the electrical power supply requirement is 230/240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, single phase. The NMR enclosure requires instrument air at 80 psig @ 10cfm. Cooling water may be required for sample cooling. See similar questions...
What type of enclosure is required to house NMR?
Process NMR FAQIt depends on where it is going to be located. In general, it is recommended that it be placed in an instrument house to minimize exposure to contaminants, dust, foul weather, and extreme temperature gradients. Where climatic conditions remain relatively mild, an open three-sided shelter may suffice. NMR magnet and associated electronics are enclosed in a NEMA4X/IP56 stainless steel box equipped with air purging and climate control. See similar questions...
What happens if there is a flammable gas leak inside the NMR analyzer enclosure?
Process NMR FAQIf needed, gas monitoring can be installed that will shut down the power to system at the first sign of a leak. See similar questions...
Can the powerful NMR magnet cause any health hazards?
Process NMR FAQNo, there is no health risk. Fringe field is less than 1 gauss 0.5 m from the magnet housing inside a typical enclosure. See similar questions...
