Care Instructions: Hand washing and line drying are recommended for the fabric collars. Spot cleaning is reccomended for the trim collars and other collars offered. Caution: Collars that tighten may cause damage to very small dogs. Children must be supervised around dogs wearing this type of collar. Please use your good judgment in determining the use of any pet collar. Not intended for tying dogs out unattended. As with any collar, inspect periodically for wear and tear.

If the Oakland Pet Adoption Center finds a pet with a collar and identification, we make every effort (telephone, mail) to contact the owner and tell them that their pet is at our shelter. The less time your pet spends at the shelter, the less it will cost you to redeem it and the quicker you will have your pet back.

For small dogs (1/2" patterns) we only offer Adjustable collars. We make two types of collars in 3/4" and 1" patterns: adjustable collars (aka 'flat' collars), and Combo collars (aka 'martingales' , 'limited slip chokers' or 'half-check collars'). They do different things. The Adjustable collar is the best all-around collar. The dog can wear it all the time, although many dog pros recommend removing any collar when the dog is crated.

If you have a slim face or a long neck, we recommend a cut-away or semi-cut-away collar (Venetian, Italian or French). e-collar is a remote collar training device for communicating with your dog. It produces a weak electrical current between two contact points located on the collar. In the old days this type of collar was used as "shock collar" to scare a dog into submission. In the training method I teach, the e-collar is used in a totally different way and your dog is never "shocked" or abused.

YES, we have seen some excellent examples of welded collars. Because our mild steel and stainless steel materials contain sulfur and other additives, the lowest possible current and adequate ventilation should be employed. Be sure to remove screws before welding. However, in no cases should collars with zinc plating be welded. The welding process on a zinc plated product will produce noxious fumes. Welding can be done safely on a black oxide finished product.

Martingale Collars are also regularly referred to as Humane Choke collars. This type collar is designed to tighten but not strangle your hound. It is not a indefinite choke but is only intended to keep you dog safely in his/her collar. If correctly adjusted it will only tighten enough to prevent you hound from backing out of his/her collar. Sighthounds typically wear this style of collar because their heads are smaller that their necks but All Breeds of dogs can wear these collars.

A Tubular Orthosis for Torticollis (TOT) Collar is used to treat infants with CMT. Basically, it is a very simple device that is made from soft plastic tubing. This tubing fits around the neck, There are hard plastic pieces that fit in-between the soft tubing on the tort side. They are cut to fit the infants neck so that they hit the base of the skull in certain places. When they tilt their head and hit these harder pieces, it is uncomfortable and they straighten their head.

The set collar is more economical, but has less holding power. Also the screw can mar a shaft as it directly fastens to the shaft. The single-split collar has a tangential screw and does not touch the shaft; plus, because it can be compressed, the split collars have about 2 1/2 times the holding power of a set collar.

We remove all collars for safety purposes. Each pet receives a card on their run for identification and all care instructions.

Protective collars are used often after surgery or injury to help protect the wound site so it can heal. They help prevent the pet from trying to chew out staples, sutures, or even lick medicines off the wound.

The release point for the Cat Safety collar is approximately 5 lbs. of pressure, which is appropriate given the range of weights in cats. Although it can be frustrating to cope with lost cat collars, it is very much preferable to the alternative (not releasing when needed). Rule of thumb for fit-ting a breakaway cat collar: it should be snug enough to resist pulling over the cat's head. If it's too loose, the cat may be able to get it's jaw or paw under the collar and release the buckle.

Flash collars are only needed when there will be a concrete pad around the base of the pole. The purpose of the flash collar is to hide the top of the ground sleeve, or the anchor bolts and nuts to give a pleasing look to the installation. Some installations will be in flowerbeds or in lawn areas. It is okay to not use a collar in these situations. Dirt, rocks, bark, or grass can be pulled up to the pole making a collar unnecessary. Yes, the ground sleeve must be sealed to keep out water.
