For each external beam radiation treatment session, the patient will be in the treatment room about 8-12 minutes, but will be getting the dose of radiation for only about one minute of that time. The length of treatment courses and the radiation doses have been established through extensive clinical trials. Modification of this time-dose may be necessary if problems arise because of complications with the cancer itself, the side effects of radiation, or a person's general physical condition.

Understandably, treatment varies from patient to patient because every case is unique. Minor, first-time injuries can often be treated in just a few visits, while more serious problems may require months of steady treatment. A treatment typically lasts from 30 to 40 minutes. Acupuncture sessions are very relaxing and most patients even fall asleep during the treatment!

Practically speaking, a treatment lasts only as long as it is in contact with the hair and scalp. Once it is rinsed out, in general there is no residual (long-lasting) action. A residual effect is claimed for some lice treatments. For example, if a malathion product is left on the hair for 6-12 hours, the compound may impregnate the outer surface of the hair shaft. However, one swim in a chlorinated pool and the residual effect is cancelled.

You will be in the treatment room for just 20 minutes. After treatment you can rest in a special recovery room at the clinic.

Typically, treatments sessions last from 45 – 60 minutes. Your therapist will be able to more accurately determine treatment times after the initial evaluation.

Many, but not all infants/children need treatment to control high blood pressure; this is done with medication(s). It is not unusual for dosages to be decreased or weaned with age. (Kidneys generally do not grow in size, but stay the same with ARPKD.) If needed, urinary tract infections (UTI's) are controlled with antibiotics. Other symptoms are treated as they occur.

First, the cause of your problem is determined with a complete examination including physical, orthopedic, neurological, and chiropractic tests. X-rays are taken if necessary. The doctor will then explain your problem, tell you whether or not he/she feels chiropractic care is indicated, and an appropriate treatment plan will be recommended. Then, gentle manipulation (or adjustments) to spinal or extremity joints are performed.

A treatment session usually lasts 1 hour. Throughout the session, the needles are manipulated 3 or more times. Needles can be retained in the scalp for 2 to 72 hours. These periods are generally shorter for children.
