The clinical psychology program has established no firm “cut-off” scores—other than the minimum grade point average required by the university—for admission to the program. All applications are evaluated individually on a case-by-case basis. However, our program receives applications from more individuals than we have the resources to admit. Space and financial considerations therefore require us to deny admission to a number of otherwise qualified candidates.

While Rutgers University does have a preferred minimum score for the GRE's, it is possible that a student will excel in one area and perform slightly below the desired score in another, or that the applicant's total GRE score is below the desired score, but that other aspects of the student's application ( undergraduate and graduate GPA's, research or teaching experience, publications etc) are very strong. Such applicants may be acceptable to the Program.

SIMS has not set any minimum scores, but normally successful applicants score in the high percentiles (80's and 90's) on the General Test.

GRE scores are not required by the Graduate Division, nor by the Department. However, students should note that some outside funding agencies may require GRE scores, for example, in nationally competitive funding agencies. Applicants should consult all the relevant sources of funding before deciding whether to do the GRE or not.

For foreign applications, we require a TOEFL score of 600. While your GRE score is important, we have no specific cut-off for GRE scores, and consider the GRE score to be just one part of your overall application. All applicants must submit a GRE score to be considered for fellowships or graduate teaching assistantships.

On the GRE, the minimum score required by the Graduate School is 850 (combined verbal and quantitative). The minimum undergraduate GPA required by the Graduate School is 2.6. The average GRE score for a Community Counseling graduate student is approximately 1100 and the average GPA is 3.5. With that said, a deficit in one area can be compensated by strength in another area.

There is no GRE score minimum, rather, the Admissions Committee takes an applicant's entire file into consideration when making an admissions decision. Both MCAT and GMAT scores will be accepted in lieu of the GRE. The LSAT may not be substituted for the GRE.

The average GRE scores for entering students is 600 to 675 on all three scales - the quantitative, verbal, and analytical sections. Students scoring below 600 hundred on any of the GRE scales will need to indicate compelling evidence of their qualifications through their GPA, references, or professional work experience. Although, there are no "cut-off" scores for the GRE examination, the scores are evaluated in the context of your entire application package; there are guidelines listed on our admissions web site. Admissions is very competitve.

We try to develop an overall picture of the candidate and their chance of success in our program by considering all the application materials presented. Although we like to see the Quantitative portion of the GRE test scores above 90%, we do not weight the GRE so heavily that scoring below that mark would cause us to deny a candidate.

The required minimum academic grade point average (for the final 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of undergraduate work) is 3.0 on a four-point scale; normally, those admitted have a grade point average well above this minimum. GRE scores must be submitted, but there is no required minimum. Admission to our program is highly competitive. The average GPA and GRE scores of those admitted will vary slightly from year to year.

There is no minimum score for the GRE. The minimum score for the TOEFL is 600 paper based/250 computer based/100 internet based. If an applicant has not met the TOEFL requirement the application will not be reviewed.

You will have to retake your exams and reapply for admission. Notify the dept. that you will submit updated scores when completed.

Yes. Applicants with GRE verbal scores below the 60th percentile (30th percentile for non-native speakers of English), GRE quantitative scores below the 70th percentile, or TOEFL scores below 600 (or below 250 if computer based exam) will not be considered for admission.
