Trismus is an involuntary contraction of the jaw muscles (muscles of mastication) causing a restriction of mouth opening. This occurs when the connective tissue becomes tight and short. Serious health implications include: inability to chew and digest food properly, difficulty speaking and compromised oral hygiene.

Patients who have range of motion limitations in the facial muscles or jaw area are appropriate for the device. Limitations can be caused by: TMJ dysfunction, arthritis, fractures, trauma, infection, head and neck surgery, oral surgery, radiation therapy or burns.

The device is worn inside the middle of the mouth while the patient is relaxed. Proper placement is essential for the ideal stretch of the masticatory muscles. The patient can hold the device with their hand or attach the counterbalance bars for hands-free therapy.

The Dynasplint® Trismus System is the most advanced home therapy treatment available. It is far superior to the commonly used tongue depressors and other systems. The Dynasplint® Trismus System actively stretches the muscles of the face and can be used for patients with openings as small as 9mm. Patients find it easy and comfortable to use.

The patient can begin using the Dynasplint® Trismus System as soon as the doctor releases them for passive range of motion. After onset, injury or surgery, the sooner the device is applied the faster results can be expected. When is the Dynasplint® Trismus System applied? The Dynasplint® Trismus System was developed for home use. It is suggested patients use the device 3 times a day for up to 30 minutes per session, 7 days a week.

The device is based on low-load, prolonged-duration stretch (LLPS) technology. It is spring loaded for simple, adjustable, reproducible tension at each therapy session. This correct biological stimulus has been proven to permanently lengthen shortened connective tissue.
