Normally, the division is 60% of the lens height for distance and 40% of the lens height for reading. But of course, you are very much welcome to inform us your preference in division. Please include a note on the order form or call us as soon as you place your order, we will make sure to note it on our end.

A bifocal lens only allows you to have two vision distances (near and far) while progressive lenses give you all your range of vision from distance, intermediate and near in a smooth progression. Most people like the newer technology of the progressive because it allows for more natural vision and cosmetically they look nicer because there is no line. The upside to standard lined bifocals is that the peripheral vision is sometimes better.

Progressive lenses are bifocals with no lines. The lenses have seamless transitions from near, immediate, to distant vision.

We only offer the service of reglazing your old frames with varifocal or bifocal lenses if you have theses lenses already fitted in your frames. We can provide this service only because we can glaze the new lenses into your old frames by using your old lens setting.

The standard size is D28 - these are 28mm wide 'D' shaped segments that are positioned 3mm below the centre of the lens vertically and they are centred on your pupillary distance horizontally. Should you require them to be positioned further up then please state this on your order. D35 bifocal lenses (slightly wider) and Executive bifocals (these stretch across the full width of the lens) can also be ordered. Yes. Your Optician will let you know if you are suitable for Bifocal (BF) Lenses. SpeckyFourEyes® recommends that you ask your Optician to make out a prescription for your glasses assuming that they are worn 12-13mm from the eye (the BVD or Back Vertex Distance).

We offer both single vision lenses and bifocals. We only supply bifocals to customers whose optician has recommended them. To all others, our standard single vision lenses will be suitable.

Bifocal lenses have two focal powers: distance and near while progressive lenses have all powers; distance, intermediate and near.

Progressive addition lenses feature a continuous, clear field of vision from distance, through the intermediate ranges, to near without the use of annoying bifocal lines. Bifocal lenses use very old technology. Abrupt and awkward changes between distance and near prescriptions are separated by annoying lines that can be frustrating to wear.

You should receive a Varilux Wearers Guide from American Vision Care when your eyeglasses are dispensed to you. A Certificate of Authenticity guaranteeing you've received genuine Varilux lenses is attached to the front cover of the Wearers Guide.

Not at the moment. There are many brands of varifocals/progressive lenses and many variable measurements. We are planning to introduce the technology at a later date.

Due to the complexities of fitting multifocal (or progressive) glasses, we do not offer these lenses at this time.

We can re-glaze customers' own frames with varifocal lenses provided that the frames are sent to us with varifocal lenses already fitted, along with a copy of your prescription. At this point in time we do not supply varifocal lenses with any of the frames we offer on the website.

If you are having trouble getting used to your progressive lenses, send them back along with the frame and we will replace them with bifocals or single-vision lenses at no extra charge.
