Assuming you've gone to a 17" wheel, 275s should fit without any problems. You should even be able to get away with 285s. As for 315s, they will stick out from under the wheel well, but not excessively. If you have a stock panhard rod, it's likely they will rub in inner wheel well under hard and uneven cornering, possibly resulting in loss of control of the vehicle. But a stiffer panhard rod and jounce bumper spacers (available from SLP), you'll be much safer. See similar questions...

Several people have successfully installed 18" wheels on their E46's, however it is unlikely that this improves performance over a 17" wheel. The advantages of a larger wheel are better steering response and aesthetics. Never try to mount your own tires. Tire mounting is a job for the people who have the proper equipment and experience. However, optional from the start of production (standard in some markets) were larger, two-piece alloys in a cross-spoke design measuring 415mm x 195mm (16.3-in. x 7.7-in.). It depends on the type of wheel. For wheels that use a Rivet Nut attachment, you do NOT need to remove the tires to install the Natural-Fit. For wheels that use a Tab attachment, the tires need to be removed to install the Natural-Fit.
