Answer: RS422 is an earlier standard than RS485. If a card complies with the RS485 standard then it will comply with the RS422 standard. The most significant difference is that RS422 when using 2 wires to communicate to another device is simplex only, ie it can only transmit or receive in one direction and requires handshake lines to control the flow of data.
