Soil Surveys published by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), formerly the Soil Conservation Service, are available from several sources. The public may view the surveys or borrow them through interlibrary loan from a public or organizational library. The USGS Library in Reston, Virginia has a majority of the soil surveys in our collection, available to the public through interlibrary loan.

Yes, but this kind of information may be more difficult to display on the web. This is because the page size is limited compared to paper-based maps & surveys, and because the resolution (level of detail) on a computer screen is much less than on paper, so small details are not legible. Solid black or dark lines on a sketch will show up, whereas pencil lines will not. (Note, the size of our scanners is 8 1/2" x 14", so we cannot scan items larger than this size.)

Once again, the South American Explorer's Club offers paper maps, both of Machu Picchu and of the Inca Trail. For online maps, there's a good map of the Inca Trail at Infoperu, as well as my own map of the Inca Trail on this site. Wholeo Online books have a sketch map of Machu Picchu, and there's a more precise but unlabelled map available as part of an article about a multimedia feature on Machu Picchu.

Hips - Canine Hip Diplasia (CHD) merits concern by all doodle breeders and its prevalence may be reduced with selective breeding. CHD is caused by a poorly formed ball-and-socket joint in the hip. The quality of this joint may be screened by x-ray and can then be certified by either the OFA or PennHip organizations. To select for new parents at Sunshine Acres, we only use those who rank within the top 50th percentile on their PennHip scores with most of our parents ranking in the 80th and above.

Most home soil test kits test only for soil pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Without knowing the calcium and magnesium levels in the soil, it is impossible to correct the soil pH without risking a calcium-to-magnesium imbalance. In addition, application of the wrong type of limestone could be disastrous. {top}

For the last collection taken in December, both the Self-Assessment and Associate survey instruments are only available in English. Communication and surveys will be sent to each respondent in English.

Maps can be purchased at any Daniel Boone National Forest office, by mail, or by ordering online. There are separate maps available for the north, south and central portions of the forest. These maps show most Forest Service system roads and trails on a 1/2" = 1 mile scale. Topographical maps are available for $6.00 plus shipping and handling. Ordering information.

With a bubble jet printer, use waterproof paper available from local map or office supply stores; some folks say hairspray works; you can slip them in a zip lock bag; or whitewater retailers often sell materials for keeping river maps dry. Waterproof paper is available for purchase over the internet from www.Lat26inc.com.

We make the maps. You too, can make maps for the GAOC. See the question above, except that making maps is expensive, and it's not easy, and it takes a lot of time.

th Mountain produces topographic maps specifically for hut use. These maps are available from our reservations office at 970-925-5775 and from the 10th Mountain Store (see menu on this page). Official 10th Mountain maps are also sold at a variety of outdoor retailers in Colorado including Front Range REI stores.

image viewer that can decode JPEG and GIF images is needed to display these maps. Most of the images are JPEG images within the 200K to 300K range; however, some of the images are quite large. Many users can have problems with the larger images. This is a result of not having enough memory to view the image; make sure that your web browser is given enough memory.

For large JPEG and GIF map images, the map must be resized to print the entire image (see below). Even after resizing, the quality and legibility of the printed map is dependent upon the quality of your printer. For quickly printing the less detailed maps, you can save the map image file to your hard drive, and then open Microsoft Word. Select Insert from the menu bar, then Picture/File.
