Organic food production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. Organic foods are minimally processed without artificial ingredients, preservatives, or irradiation to maintain the integrity of the food. Conventional agricultural methods can cause water contamination.

I have found, from talking to many people, that those that cannot tolerate wheat, usually have no problems with oats. I don't. Only those with Celiac Sprue disease cannot tolerate anything containing any amount of gluten, including oats.

Milling crushes the grain into "powder" (flour). Rolling flattens it, like the old wringer washers used to do to clothes. The flaker "shaves" the grain into thin "strips". Don't confuse this with Kellogg's Corn Flakes or Wheaties, etc. Those are cooked (recipe) products.

Whole grains in general have nutritional advantages. Whole grain oats in particular supply soluble fibre. Organic certification is the process by which independent third party certifiers (such as Quality Assurance International, California Certified Organic Farmer's, Oregon Tilth, etc) check the records and practices of a farmer or processor and certify that their products are being grown and processed in accordance with the USDA's National Organic Program. The National Organic Program took effect on October 21, 2002 and established national standards for organic practices and labeling.

Section 205.300 of the US Certified Organic Act says: ... (c) Products produced in a foreign country and exported for sale in the United States must be certified pursuant to subpart E of this part and labeled pursuant to this subpart D. ... Technically products can be certified organic, if the foreign producer fills out the paper work and pays their fee, per section 205.400 of the act.

If the compound contains a metal or a nonmetal such as Se, then the compound is generally regarded as an organometallic compound. Methane (CH4) is considered an organic compound but carbon dioxide (CO2) is not. Thus, organic compounds usually contain hydrogen as well as carbon.

No. Our meals are about 95% organic. There are some ingredients that are either not available organically (e.g. salt, water), or we cannot find a cost effective and reliable source (e.g. mirin - Japanese cooking wine). If one of our dinners contains non-organic ingredients, they will be clearly indicated in orange on our monthly menu. In an effort to keep our prices reasonable, we have decided to use natural (i.e. non-organic) beef, poultry and pork.

We are also building a network with other farmers in the U.S. to help expand our line of items grown from these high quality plants. Part of our mission is to support these farmers to help establish a strong socially responsible and healing farming impulse.

The overwhelming majority of maple syrup is produced in forests where no herbicides or pesticides have been applied. Therefore, most maple syrup would be considered organic. The requirements are stated by the particular organic certification organization, but generally state no use of substances (for example, fertilizers or pesticides) in the production process that would alter the pure nature of maple syrup.
