After every pump out we recommend you clean the tank with fresh water and one of those enzyme cleaners or “Odorloss”. Coast Guard regulations tell us we must use the tank. Considering what we put into it, it requires attention to keep it clean.

In most cases, a holding tank can only be utilized if a soil evaluation shows that no other type of POWTS can be installed on the property and if the local Municipality allows the use of the requested holding tank. It all depends on the hardness of your feed water. If you are using a water softener, it may never scale up and cleaning the surface areas may not be necessary. Normally it is not necessary to clean the brine tank. In time dirt and silt can build up in the brine tank and if you choose you can clean it out. Let the salt level drop down very low. The night before you clean, manually regenerate the softener. Disconnect the brine line and dump out the old salt, (Do not dump the old salt anywhere near living plants).
