Vacation and sick accruals are posted in hours on the paychecks of those employees who earn paid vacation and sick time. Employees on the bi-weekly payroll will have paid vacation and sick time posted on each paycheck. Employees on the semi-monthly payroll will have paid vacation and sick time posted on the first paycheck of every month (the prior month's accrual). Currently our trash haulers observe: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas (only when the holiday falls during the week). When the holiday falls on the weekend, trash will picked up one day later than the normal schedule.

Steve & I are not Amish. Shipshewana, Indiana, population 525 is located in the middle of a very large, growing Amish settlement. There are 15,000 Amish in our area.

There is no refuse or recycling collection in the City on these dates. Recycling and refuse will be picked up on the next reqularly scheduled day.***

Oh, Kath. Your family is going through it. You are in my prayers with them all. Bless you, Kath. And I mean that. Chanukkah is over already, but we kept it very low-key, observing the first and last days at the shul with my congregation. My children and their families observe Christmas, and my son is still in southern California -- for a little(!!!!) while longer. My daughter is here, so we had a nice dinner and games with them much of the day yesterday at her house.

November 1, Samhain (pronounced Sow-en in Ireland (with "sow" to rhyme with "cow"), Sah-ven in Scotland). This is the Celtic new year. It is the end of harvest and the beginning of winter. At this time we gather to rejoice that we have survived another year and to honour those who have not. It is this association of communion with the dead that has led to the popular practice of Halloween. Samhain is not a Celtic god of the dead, despite novels by Ray Bradbury or the Ghostbusters cartoons.
