The Ordinary Degree Project is primarily technical and requires the student to produce a working software artefact. The Honours Degree Project requires substantial background research and reflection on the part of the student. The only way of making sure that you will get an honours degree is to have passed 120 credit points. However, sometimes when a student has not passed all 120-credit points it is possible that the Board of Examiners will exercise what is called compensation in the students' favour. Honours in Engineering is based on performance over the 4 or 5 years of your degree. It is determined by the average marks you achieve in your units of study.
