Although some companies are developing systems that use LPG and diesel at the same time, the Greenfuel position is that they are very different fuels. Introducing them together may cause great increases in power output and consequently mechanical problems. If, in the future, a company can demonstrate a system that is both mechanically reliable and reduces emissions, then Greenfuel will advocate its use.

The previous approach to diesel conversion was to totally replace diesel with lpg. This did not work very well. We are actively looking into alternative lpg adaptions for diesel engines. Once we have trailed a successful method we will be rolling it out.

Internal combustion engines have more variable power, generate more torque, and are much more mobile in that refueling can be done anywhere. They do, however, require more maintenance and emit noticeable emissions. Electric forklifts are fume free, have less moving parts, which means less overall maintenance, quiet and clean, and easy to use. Their drawback is an eight hour recharge time when it runs out of power and the forklift needs to be returned to a charger every time.

A blend of propane and butane, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is produced either as a by-product of oil-refining, or from natural gas (methane) fields. As an alternative fuel it is most suited to use in cars and light vans, rather than heavy vehicles. Performance-wise, LPG vehicles drive just like petrol vehicles and are subject to the same maintenance schedules. It is generally accepted that LPG gives a 10-15% carbon dioxide reduction in comparison to petrol and is on a par with diesel.

Latest estimates claim that there are 107,000 LPG vehicles in the UK with numbers constantly increasing. The Queen, the Prime Minister and the President of the USA all drive LPG cars.

Any diesel engine can operate on Biodiesel with no modification to the engine. Older vehicles often must have their fuel lines changed from natural rubber to synthetic rubber hoses. Using B20 (a blend of 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel) requires no precautions before use. If you want to use a blend higher than B20, such as B99.9, you will need to be aware of a few precautions before proceding. B100 is compatible will ALL diesel engines as long a few precautions are taken.
