Eudora is an email program for the Macintosh computer. It is available for the Macintosh and PC operating systems. Eudora is designed by Steve Dorner and produced by Qualcomm. It is available native for the PowerPC chip as well as older 680x0 chips. Eudora can be downloaded at Qualcomm's FTP site, <URL:ftp://ftp.qualcomm.com/> A program designated "Fat" (for example EudoraFAT 1.5.

Note: The following instructions have been verified using Eudora 5.1 under Windows. If anyone is using Eudora under Mac OS X please let us know if the configuration is the same as Windows. Eudora does not allow configuring the server port through the normal options dialogue. However a large number of options are exposed in an initialization file (eudora.ini) read at startup. The contents of the initialization file are documented by clicking on Help->Topics and searching on EUDORA.

Move only the actual mailfiles. Do not worry about the .mbx files. Eudora will rebuild them automatically. The only problem you might run into is the differences between PC's and Macs in regards to soft and hard returns. You will have to convert the DOS text to Mac text. There are several ways of doing this.

This has been hit upon several times on the newsgroup, so I think I will just post what has already been said. It is important, however, to remember to compact mailboxes before moving your mailboxes, otherwise deleted messages will show up on the PC side. Use ascii-mode ftp to transfer your mailbox files from the Mac to the PC. That's it. Ignore the ".toc" files. You'll want to give the transferred DOS files the extension ".mbx", which you can do manually once the files are on the PC.

Most email programs show a few useful headers (like Subject, Date, From, and CC) normally, and show the rest only when asked. Eudora does things the other way: it hides those headers that it knows only have technical details and shows the rest. Unfortunately, this means that it shows and prints things like the X-NAV-Timeouts added by Norton Antivirus, mailing list information, the X-Spam-Status, and full spam reports - and prints them too.

You had probably changed your email password, and yet the password retained in the memory of the Eudora program was the old password. Remove the old password and input the new password in Eudora's memory. E3. Email messages not deleted from the server. I get Duplicate Messages when I download from server. I have configured my Eudora NOT to "leave messages on the server". Now the deleted messages are showing up again when I download email.

If you are sure you are not using another program on your computer that listens on port 110, such as an antivirus program that checks your email for viruses, then you may be able to get away with a very quick change to K9 to get Eudora working. If this is the case, open K9 and go to the Configuration tab. In the Proxy section change the default port number in the Listen on port... area from 9999 to 110.

If the *.mbx file is corrupted, there is no help unless you have a backup. An alternative way is to open that file with a text editor (e.g. Notepad) and retrieve the information you want from the text file. If the mailbox index file (*.toc) is corrupted, delete the index file and Eudora will create a new one.

You can set your Eudora to IMAP mode and then you can manipulate the mail folders on the server to copy them to your PC. If you wish to use IMAP protocol, you must first login HKUVPN. Eudora is published by a company called Qualcomm. It was originally written by Steve Dorner and was named after Eudora Welty, the author of a short story called "Why I Live at the P.O." Eudora has typically been released in two versions: a freeware version and a commercial version which is similar to the freeware version but with extra features. More recent versions of Eudora also include a sponsored version, with the features of the commercial version.

Look in the Windows menu and select the Mailboxes menu item. This will bring up a window with two columns which display your Eudora mailboxes. You can select a mailbox by clicking on it and then delete it by clicking the Remove button. The mailbox and any mail messages in the mailbox will be deleted, so be careful the mailbox doesn't contain any e-mail you want to save! You can also use this window to rename mailboxes, create new mailboxes and folders, and move mailboxes into folders.

The following steps were created using Eudora 5.1. Depending on the version you are using, the steps may be different. For information on how to create a POP3 email account, go to adding a POP Account. In the Return address text box, enter your return email address (e.g., UserID@forexample-domain.com). After configuring Eudora for your POP account, it is recommended that you disable the option to store copies of messages on the server.

Per dialup session, you would need to be authenticated to use the SMTP(Outgoing Mail) server. This is to prevent spammers from gaining access to your SMTP server. Here is how you can be authenticated: Now you are authenticated and you should be able to send and receive email w/o any problems. As long as you don't quit the program and stay connected to the net, you wouldn't need to be authenticated anymore.

In the REAL NAME field, type your name the way you would like people to see it when they get email from you. For example, John Doe. In the MAIL SERVER (INCOMING) field, enter the mail server that was given to you when you created the account. For ONID accounts use imap.onid.oregonstate.edu. Click OK. This completes the basic setup - you should now be able to send and receive email in Eudora.

To include a particular signature in an outgoing message, select the signature you want from the Signature drop-down on the message toolbar.
