The term "tax-deferred" refers to payroll deductions which are not subject to federal or state taxes at the time of the deduction. Taxation of the income is delayed or "deferred" until the money is withdrawn from a retirement plan account at the time of retirement.

This term is frequently misunderstood given that it is also used to describe radioactive materials and ionized radiation. In the context of Low Intensity Laser Therapy, "radiation" simply means the transmission of energy. LILT does produce radiation, but as photon energy in the visible red and near infra-red regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

A tax-deferred savings plan allows employees to save for their own retirement with pre-tax contributions. This program is sometimes referred to as the "Cash Match" plan because UVA will match 50% of what an eligible employee contributes up to a ceiling of $40 per month. The cash match ceiling for Medical Center employees hired after September 1 of 2002 is 2% of creditable compensation.

In a group insurance policy, a preexisting medical condition is defined as a physical or mental condition for which medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment was recommended or received within six months prior to the insured's enrollment under the plan. In this case, we tend to attach our emotional feelings to wild birds, forgetting that these are wild creatures and do not have human emotions as we might think. They instead live primarily by instincts. This is a study that can get very in-depth and I don't want to get into it here, but just remember, wild creatures don't show emotions as we humans do.

This term is often used to compare games with one another. It refers to a game that is typical of Downtown Las Vegas - double down allowed on any initial two cards, dealer hits soft-17, resplits and insurance allowed. Las Vegas "Strip" rules improve the player's odds slightly requiring the dealer to stand on all 17s. [Issue 4.3]

The term is used to describe a horse that does not wear a bit and is 'barefoot". Technically a horse that does not wear a bit and is not shod might be described as "ironfree" - however there is a world of difference between a horse that is not shod and a horse that is "barefoot trimmed".

This option is available for only up to 20 years. The balance must be paid in full at the end of the 20-year period. Because the City is responsible for satisfying the bonds when they mature, failure to pay at the end of 20 years will result in the City initiating foreclosure proceedings. No, you may not. Once you select the Deferred Assessment Option, you cannot opt out and go back to traditional financing.

When replacing power valves to ensure they work correctly, give the required sound and ensure a long working life we recommend the amplifier is re biased. If the bias is not set every time the power valves are replaced this can and will cause damage to the valves and amplifier. All work of this nature must be carried out by a qualified engineer.

In general terms it means a home that is environmentally "friendly" and promotes good health. Universal Precautions is OSHA's required method of control to protect employees from exposure to all human blood and OPIM. The term, "Universal Precautions," refers to a concept of bloodborne disease control which requires that all human blood and certain human body fluids are treated as if known to be infectious for HIV, HBV, and other bloodborne pathogens.

Body image is the term used to describe how we see ourselves when we look in the mirror -- and how we believe others see us. Different than a reflection, which is what the mirror "sees," body image encompasses the state of mind in which we view that reflection. For example, a stranger may look at you and see an attractive, well-groomed person. But you may see yourself as overweight, unattractive, or even ugly ? and believe that others see you that way as well.

Through the use of tax-deferred retirement accounts you can invest some of the money you would have otherwise paid in taxes to increase the amount of your retirement fund. Many employers offer plans where you can elect to defer a portion of your salary and contribute it to a tax-deferred retirement account. For most companies these are referred to as 401(k) plans. For many other employers, such as universities, a similar plan called a 403(b) is available.

If the rule described in answer two above is violated, a partially tax deferred exchange is the likely outcome. If the exchanger trades down in either fair market value or equity then some gain is likely to be recognized. If the exchange is otherwise valid, a partially deferred tax exchange is the result. Internal Revenue Code Section 1031 allows taxpayers the opportunity to defer capital gains taxes owed upon the sale of investment or income property by exchanging the property for other like-kind property. The IRS states specific guidelines that must be followed and a Qualified Intermediary provides for a safe harbor exchange by assuring adherence to these guidelines.
