How do I expand the MPC3000's (or MPC3000LE's) memory to 32 megabytes?

Roger Linn Design
Despite Akai's claim that the maximum MPC3000 memory is 16 megabytes (using two 4 MB SIMMs and their proprietary 8 MB memory board), it is actually 32 megabytes, or 380 seconds of sample time. Their stated reason for claiming a maximum capacity of 16 MB is that the MPC3000's disk system has a limit of 30 MB per disk partition, which prevents you from saving a full 32 MB of sample memory to disk. We think you'd prefer to have the choice.

What is the difference between 32 bit and 36 bit memory?

All of Memory FAQ
bit memory is commonly known as ECC memory. It has an additional 8 bits for Error Correction Check 64 bit memory is non-ECC. 72 bit or 64 bit configuration are typically found in 168 pin DIMMs bit memory is commonly known as parity memory. It has an additional 4 bits for parity checking. 32 bit memory is non-parity. 32 bit or 36 bit configuration are typically found in 72pin or 30 pin SIMMs

Why is rpc.statd using 256 megabytes of memory?

System Administration
No, there is no memory leak, and it is not using 256 Mbytes of memory. For convenience, rpc.statd maps an obscene amount of memory into its address space. There is nothing terribly wrong with this from a technical standpoint; it just throws off things like top(1) and ps(1). rpc.statd(8) maps its status file (resident on /var) into its address space; to save worrying about remapping it later when it needs to grow, it maps it with a generous size.

How do I expand the RAM memory?

HammerSound - Info / Faq
If you got an AWE with simm-sockets (not the AWE value) then you can expand your RAM memory up to 28 Mb. The AWE has two simm-sockets. To expand your memory you will need two simm-modules of the same kind (30 pin and 80 ns or better, parity or no parity). You can't use only one simm. You can use up to 16 Mb modules but you will only get 28 Mb instead of 32 Mb. This is because the EMU chip can adress 32 Mb, 4Mb ROM (but the AWE only has 1 Mb) and 28 Mb RAM.

How to expand DSP memory?

news.answers/NeXT-FAQ
The Speech Recognition Lab at San Francisco State University has developed a DSP memory expansion board for the NeXT computer that provides the maximum memory supported by the DSP56001 processor. We are now offering this board to those whose are interested in high-performance custom DSP development. The board is a 576KB DSP expansion memory board organized as three non-overlapping 192KB banks: X-data, Y-data and Program.

Question: Can I expand the video memory on a MP?

MP and Mac Magic FAQ
Answer: Some models can be expanded, others not. Please see the manual of the specific model. (The MP328 and MP520 can be expanded from 2 to 4 MByte, if they did not ship with 4 MByte already. The following cards to not allow a memory expansion: MP320, MP340, MP540, MP850, MacMagic, MacMagicPro.) Problem: I cannot choose millions of colors with the resolution 1024x768 on my MP328 or MP520 with 4 MByte of RAM.

How much memory should I give it?

MT-NW Manual: Frequently Asked Questions
Important Note: Your humble authors got tired of writing dry formal technical prose in the rest of this document, and succumbed to the temptation to try to be funny in parts of this appendix. Sarcasm abounds here. Please do not take any of this personally! The humor-impaired should interpret my comments not as attacks on them, but as an attempt to make fun of myself for being impatient with you, my devoted and valued, if sometimes demanding, users.

How Much Memory Do I Have?

All of Memory FAQ
Consult your user/owner's manual for details about the original memory configuration and capacity. If you've misplaced the manual, you may be able to contact the retailer where you bought the PC from. If you have a hand-me-down PC or inherited a pre-owned PC, you probably may not have the user manual or know any detail of the original memory configuration or the memory configuration may have been changed.

I want to use more than 16 Megabytes of memory. Will any of the BSD based systems support it?

Section 0. (Basic FAQ information)
When using NetBSD and FreeBSD, there is no SOFTWARE limitation on more than 16Meg of memory. There are still hardware limitations. The limit is caused by DMA controllers which copy memory images around the system. Many cards which people use in VESA and EISA machines either emulate ISA cards (in order to work with *BSD) or are really ISA cards.

Why do they expand?

Eco-Logs - Frequently Asked Questions
Because they have "memory". When they are placed in a fire, the heat acts to relieve the "stress" that was imparted to them as they were being compacted in the die.

Question: What is the difference between Megabits and Megabytes? What do I need to look for?

Residential Computing: University Park | Bandwidth FAQ

How many megabytes do I get for my site?

iProsper.net Web Site Hosting, Design, Virtual Tours, & ...
Each hosting plan offers a different amount of space, starting with 150 MB's of space. Some people ask us "Why so much space?". The answer is easy. Most hosting companies provide a fraction of the space we offer for the same price. We do this because we know how hard it is to create a high performance site using only 20 megabytes. It's not an easy task. Giving you a large amount of space at low cost not only keeps you happy, but provides plenty of room for your company to expand. ^top

Seems to me DJGPP is afflicted by the fatware disease... A : There are a number of shareware/freeware programs floating around which allow formatting DOS diskettes to almost twice their usual capacity, so you can use less floppies. One such program is 2M, available from CCT mirrors as 2mNN.zip.

How can I estimate FireWall-1's memory usage?

Check Point Technical Support
Each session requires about 120 bytes of memory, more if the session is authenticated or if address translation is used. The FireWall Module does not release the memory used by a session until about 50 seconds after the session ends, so if there are many sessions significantly shorter than a minute, the FireWall Module needs more memory than the number of active sessions would indicate.

What can you tell me about the IBM 2361's memory?

IBM Archives -- FAQ's for Products and Services
The 2361 was the first IBM memory to use two-wire core storage to increase storage capacity, improve performance and reduce unit size. Cores were woven into each juncture of a screen-like mesh of wire to form a plane resembling a small window screen. Memory circuits were associated with core planes in the 2361 and included some 3,500 Solid Logic Technology modules and 35,000 high-current silicon diodes.

What are the EXPAND OUTPUT connections for?

Technical Support
These fixed line level outputs are for driving other systems or "stacking" CP 64s, CP 52s and/or CP 31s together for larger applications. The signal may consist of paging only, program only or a copy of the zone signal. This output can be used for music on hold as well as zones not needing level adjustment (i.e. rest rooms, entryways and similar areas).
