Important Note Regarding Barrels: Up until 2001 all Savage actions utilized a barrel with a nominal barrel thread diameter of 1.05". Soon after Savage started introduced Super Short and Ultra Mags in 2001, they began utilizing a slightly larger barrel thread diameter of 1.125" for those rifles only. Some standard magnum chamberings (i.e. 300 Winchester Magnum etc.) were also fabricated using the larger barrel thread at that same time.

Trigger. Because of the limited mechanical advantage (the trigger bears against sear which is bearing against the main spring) the factory trigger cannot be safely adjusted below 3-5 (experts vary) pounds. It is not difficult to remove the barrel from a Savage. The 'trick' is to use heat to break the thread sealant. Using a large bench vise and some hardwood to hold the action in the vise you should be able to remove the barrel without scratching anything if you have a barrel nut wrench. Yes, although the factory doesn't like to sell you a 357Sig barrel if you have a G-22, G-23 or a G-27. My advice is to buy a G-31, G-32, or G-33 and get a .40 S&W barrel from Glockmeister or one of the other after market barrels. The throat erodes due to the high temperature flame from the burning powder and the swaging of the bullet into the rifling grooves. Crowns are usually damaged during cleaning.
