Parts may distort as they solidify and cool in the die, or during ejection from the die. These problems are solvable but usually require discussions between the part designer, the tool designer and the die-casting engineer since they involve increasing draft angles etc. However, part distortion is quite often caused by mishandling during press trimming, polishing etc. or when the parts are clamped in jigs for machining, plating or painting.

Well, to get a little more complicated, distortion is any departure from a true and accurate reproduction of the original waveform. It can include Noise, Clipping Distortion, Harmonic, and Intermodulation Distortion. These last two forms are fairly common in loudspeaker reproduction and can be reduced but not entirely eliminated in the existing technology.

Reason 1: Distortion causes the power spectrum to shift upwards in frequency. A bass note, when distorted, will have lots of high frequency energy. This will cause mid-ranges and tweeters to fry, if the amplifier is operating full range. It doesn't harm woofers, necessarily. Reason 2: Distortion causes the average power to be much higher. Typically, a music signal that never clips has an average power level of 1/4 the peak power level for even the most compressed speed metal or pop.

For linear distortion I measure the dB magnitude deviation of the frequency response from my performance target that I have set for on-axis and off-axis response of the speaker, utilizing the data that you can see on the System Test page. I measure phase response for summation of driver outputs in the crossover region. In the time domain I look at stored energy using shaped tone-bursts (FAQ17) to characterize drivers and cabinets.

Distortion generally occurs in "wrap" (curved) frames. Our S Rat frame has very little curvature. Users of our Whistler frame may feel distortion on prescriptions with cylinder readings (the middle number on Rx's - a.k.a. astigmatism) beyond -2.00. This is a rule of thumb however, and each person's sensitivity to distortion is different. Sphere + Cylinder should be within +/-7.00 for our Whistler frame.

Each time speech is converted into a digital signal and back again, tiny difference from the original creeps in. The more times this happens on a single call, the bigger those differences can become. These differences can become perceptible as distortion. Ideally, the path speech takes should only require one 'analog to digital to analog' conversion and this will be the case in many instances.

Keeping your signal in-phase is akin to making sure that when you play guitar, the sound coming from the low E string plays at the same time as the G string when it comes out of your amp. You may take this for granted but the fact is, phase distortion can cause an instrument to get lost in the mix and make a bass sound muddy. Phase distortion can occur at all frequencies but is most noticeable in the bass or low frequencies.

Normally, by distortion, we mean the introduction into our signal of frequency components not present in the original. This also gives us a method for esatblishing the quantity of distortion: input a signal with known frequency components and find size of the largest frequency component in the recorded signal not present in the original. You can then express the size of this component as a percentage size of the largest true component, or as an amplitude ratio in dB.

There is currently a lot of misleading information in the marketplace regarding "Total Harmonic Distortion" (THD) in relation to generators. Terms such as this, and also "Sine Wave", are used along with "Clean Power" and "Perfect Wave Form" when referring to the output from generators. One Australian manufacturer is using these terminologies as a marketing tool, advertising their generating sets as "the cleanest power around", due to their THD percentage.

Aliasing distortion happens when the sound that is being sampled contains partials that are higher than the Nyquist frequency. The Nyquist frequency is calculated ass half of the value of the sampling rate. Aliasing distortion can be avoided by using high sampling rates.

If you use speakers, your friend on the phone will hear an echo. A headset is recommended and it will reduce the echo. If you still experience an echo with the headset (or handset), the headphone speakers may be turned up too high and the microphone can pick up the sound from the headphone speakers. Lower the Volume from the audio control, the headset's volume, and the microphone volume. Some sound cards have mixing capabilities (this may re-transmit sound from speaker to microphone internally).

Should disputes arise as a result of wage distortion, RA 6727 provides for correcting the distortions as follows: In organized firms, the employer and the union shall negotiate to correct the distortion using the grievance procedures in the CBA or, if the dispute remains unresolved, through voluntary arbitration. In unorganized firms, the employers and workers endeavor to correct the distortion.
