Standards development work begins when members of an ASTM technical committee identify a need or other interested parties approach the committee. Task group members prepare a draft standard, which is reviewed by its parent subcommittee through a letter ballot. After the subcommittee approves the document, it is submitted concurrently to the main committee and the entire membership of ASTM.

Our products meet the ASTM standard put in place for that particular product. Some of our products do not have a standard set forth by ASTM. However, we still maintain a high quality of production on these parts.

ASTM standards are used by individuals, companies, and agencies around the world. Purchasers and sellers incorporate standards into contracts; scientists and engineers use them in their laboratories and offices; architects and designers use them in their plans; government agencies around the world reference them in codes, regulations, and laws; and many others refer to them for guidance. ASTM standards are ?voluntary? in the sense that their use is not mandated by ASTM.

ASTM has over 30,000 members from more than 100 countries around the world who are producers, users, consumers, and general interest parties, such as academicians and government representatives. These members write ASTM standards through their service on one or more of ASTM’s 130-plus technical committees.It is these members who determine which standards development activities to pursue.

The development, oversight and implementation of the NPHPSP are collaborative efforts of seven national partners: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Public Health Practice Program Office (CDC/PHPPO) - provides the overall coordination for the initiative and is active in all areas. American Public Health Association (APHA) - serves as a lead organization in marketing and communications activities.

All the ISO standards are developed through a voluntary, consensus-based approach. Each member country of ISO develops its position on the standards and these positions are then negotiated with other member countries. Draft versions of the standards are sent out for formal written comment and each country casts its official vote on the drafts at the appropriate stage of the process.

The ASTM standard for glazed concrete blocks is ASTM C744. There was a Federal Standard SSC 621B which was discontinued because it was virtually identical to ASTM C744. If you ever see a reference to Federal Specification SSC 621B, know that this standard has been superseded by ASTM C744 which is virtually identical.

ASTM developed standards which include a category intended to protect children five years of age and under. ASTM Standard F1346-91 for spa covers includes specific performance tests and labeling requirements. Covers must be able to pass certain tests. The first is Static Load. "In the case of spas with a width or diameter greater than 8' from the periphery, the cover shall be able to hold a weight of 485 pounds to permit a rescue operation.

WSS sets are developed using a DOE-authorized closure process. This process is described in DOE M 450.3-1, THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY CLOSURE PROCESS FOR NECESSARY AND SUFFICIENT SETS OF STANDARDS. Use of the process is authorized in DOE P 450.3, AUTHORIZING USE OF THE NECESSARY AND SUFFICIENT PROCESS FOR STANDARDS-BASED ENVIRONMENT, SAFETY, AND HEALTH MANAGEMENT. Both of these Directives were issued January 25, 1996.

Technical Standards are issued under the Technical Standards Program (TSP). The TSP is managed by the DOE Headquarters Technical Standards Program Office (TSPO) in the Office of Environment, Safety, and Health (EH). Although part of the Directives system, Technical Standards are issued using a separate but similar process. Our standards contain the technical requirements for product evaluation. We're responsible for nearly 200 formal Canadian standards, developed by balanced committees representing groups most involved with a particular standard, such as inspection authorities, manufacturers, consumers, users and testing labs.

Ethiopian standards are developed by technical committees comprised of members from industry, trade, government bodies and other stakeholders as well as individuals who have the requisite expertise. Krueger can manufacture security grilles that meet ASTM A750. ASTM A750 applies to ventilating grilles for detention areas. ASTM A750 references four material specifications. They are: ASTM A6, A29, A627, and A629. A6 covers structural shapes and plates. A29 is for steel bars. A627 and A269 cover tool-resisting steel. Construction to ASTM standards is expensive due to special testing methods, materials tracing, special material specifications, and heat treating.

The ASTM standard for linear dimensional stability (ASTM D 1204) was originally 2% maximum. In the mid-90s the standard was changed to 1% maximum. The change in the ASTM standard was influenced by the belief that membrane shrinkage may be a contributor to the bridging seen on some old ballasted applications. In reality, EPDM has always exhibited a dimensional stability value of much less than 1%, even when the ASTM Standard was 2%.

ASTM site investigation/assessment standards attempt to encapsulate best practices that have been demonstrated and have broad technical acceptance in a replicable set of methods and approaches. For example, there already is an ASTM standard for conducting Expedited Site Characterization work (D6235-98a), one of the historical improvements in the characterization process that the Triad has built on.
