The Java Media Framework API (JMF) specifies a simple, unified architecture to synchronize and control audio, video and other time-based data within Java applications and applets. For the purposes of this FAQ, "JMF" or "JMF API" refers to both the specification (as generated from javadoc) and the reference implementations that Sun provides with the specification. The JMF 1.0 API specifies playback behavior and was developed by Sun Microsystems, Inc., Silicon Graphics Inc., and Intel Corporation.

Java Sound supports the following audio file formats: AIFF, AU and WAV. It also supports the following MIDI based song file formats: SMF type 0 (Standard MIDI File, aka .mid files), SMF type 1 and RMF. The Java Sound engine can render 8 or 16 bit audio data, in mono or stereo, with sample rates from 8KHz to 48KHz, that might be found in streaming audio or any of the supported file formats.

DivX, XviD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4-SP, WMV9, and Motion-JPEG. Note that, according to Creative's web site:DivX and XviD encoded files are playable if they are encoded as standard MPEG-4 Simple (SP) or Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) without GMC support. This product is not certified by DivX Inc. May not play all DivX 4 and 5 files. It's important to note that H.264 (used by Apple's video iPod) is not supported (these files typically have extensions like .mp4 and .m4v).

Other audio formats are supported by our technology and may be made available in the future on request.

JMF supports both transmission and reception of media over RTP for a variety of media formats. Besides, JMF implements the "RTP Profile for Audio and Video Conferences with Minamal Control", RTP/AVP. The front end GUI application, JMStudio can be used as a standalone application to transmit and receive RTP streams.

JMF supports RTSP on the client side for reception and playback. The RTSP protocol stack is built into the player which can be accessed through the Manager.createPlayer() interface with an RTSP media locator. There are two separate mechanisms provided by the .NET class library - XmlSerializer and SoapFormatter/BinaryFormatter. Microsoft uses XmlSerializer for Web Services, and SoapFormatter/BinaryFormatter for remoting. Both are available for use in your own code. It depends. XmlSerializer has severe limitations such as the requirement that the target class has a parameterless constructor, and only public read/write properties and fields can be serialized.

Currently, MediaFace will convert over 70 different video formats into the Flash format (.flv) for streaming. If you upload a file to MediaFace and it doesn't convert, you will see an error thumbnail in your account. If this happens, let us know at info@10duke.com and we'll try to fix it.

We support most video formats that are used on the Internet: Quicktime, Windows Media, MPEG-1/2/4, Real, Flash, DivX, Xvid, etc. If you bump into a video feed that we can't handle please let us know.

Windows Media Rights Manager supports Windows Media Format, including Windows Media Audio format (with a .wma file name extension) and Windows Media Video format (with a .wmv file name extension).

The file formats not supported by HV355 include OGG, OGM, ASF, WMV, WMA, MP4, MOV, RMVB, MKV, MKA, and 3GPP. When playing video files with HV355, the screen sticks on a specific frame of some file and unable to execute further operations. If this phenomenon happened each time on the very same section, it is probably caused by bad sectors on the HDD. Please connect the HDD to a computer to check and repair this file.

Conference casting supports RealSystems and Windows Media Formats for video and audio conference casting. It does not currently support Apple QuickTime.

The primary and preferred font format is the TrueType font format. Java 2D also supports Opentype layout tables within TrueType fonts for complex text rendering (Arabic, Indic etc). In addition Java 2D supports Postscript Type1 fonts. Are any fonts bundled with Java 2D? A: Yes, the Java SE SDK includes three Lucida TrueType font families: Lucida Sans (Sans Serif), Lucida Typewriter (Terminal/Monospaced) and Lucida Bright (Serif).

Transport streams are not compatible. MPEG filenames must have no more than eight characters (DOS 8.3 format) with [.mpg] as the extension. Still MPEG file format: Must comply with above requirements.

Media Center's DVR-MS files now supported with latest MVP software. http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_mediamvp.html If you are running a Vista PC with MediaMVP installed, you can also play WMV files through MediaMVP. This is done by "transcoding" the WMV files into MPEG for playback on the MediaMVP. The transcode is done while the video is playing (in real time). The lastest version of MediaMVP software has improvements to network connections.
