Does a snake go blind when it is about to shed its skin?

The Sweetwater Jaycees' Annual Rattlesnake RoundUp
Actually, a snake does not go blind. It does shed its skin many times during the life cycle. At this point, the skin has become somewhat of a hazard to the snake in terms of preventing comfortable growth or simply preventing the acquiring of a slick new skin with less drag while crawling around. The snake has no moveable eye lid so the skin is all one large covering, including that area over the eye itself. This appears to be a clear cap which allows the snake to see through it.

Why does our Felt shed fibers?

Frequently Asked Questions
There are typically three explanations: 1) the Felt manufacturing process, 2) the application the Felt is under, and/or 3) the type fiber used to manufacture the felt is not suitable for the application. The Felt Manufacturing Process : requires a set "needling" procedure to insure interlocking of the fibers so they will not "pull" out or simply "lay" on the surface. See similar questions...

Q7: What is brumation and does my snake need it?

FAQ
Brumation, otherwise known as overwintering, is a winter cooling period where snakes retreat underground to spend the cold months in relative "biological shutdown." It is during this time that their metabolism slows, they stop feeding and utilize stored body fat, and their reproductive processes recover from the past breeding season, synchronize, and prepare for a new season. How often do Ball Pythons shed their skin?

FAQs
Healthy ball pythons will shed their skin several times a year. This is not due so much to growth, but just to the fact that the old skin needs to be replaced. They usually have some trouble shedding in one piece. You can help your ball python shed by placing them in a large container of water, lukewarm to warm for a few hours at a time. A rock placed in the tank can also help them to "rub" off the dead skin. See similar questions...

Do toads shed or molt their skin?

Toadily Toads Most Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Toads shed their skin but they don't leave it behind like a snake. They eat it. If the toad is busy shedding, leave them alone. They will look shiny and they will often be puffed up in a funny position as if sitting up. After they shed the old skin, the toad will look clean and light in color. When a toad is very dark, they are often ready to shed. This is a normal practice for toads and I've never encountered one in my 27 years with toads who needed any assistance. How does it feel to be blind?

NFB - Frequently Asked Questions
When you are newly blind, in the beginning, it can feel frustrating or scary. This is because you have not learned how to do things for yourself as a blind person. But once you learn the skills that blind people use, you no longer feel that way. Blind people do the same things as sighted people. We go to school or work, and we do the things that we need to do. We do this naturally, without even thinking about being blind. See similar questions...

Infrequently Asked Questions in comp.lang.c
My floating-point calculations are acting strangely and giving me different answers on different machines. I'm trying to do some simple trig, and I am #including <math.h>, but I keep getting ''undefined: _sin'' compilation errors. You forgot to define the sin() function. Most math texts should cover it in some detail. The easiest way to fix this should be: double sin(double x) { return sqrt(1 - cos(x) * cos(x)); } See similar questions...

What does the snake symbol represent?

Transtopia -- FAQ
The primary transtopian symbol, the Ourohazard (Ouroboros serpent + biohazard logo) represents both technological self-liberation --the shedding of the flesh and all its inherent weaknesses and limitations-- as well as annihilation and extinction. It represents technology as an intrinsically dualistic force; creator and destroyer, savior and nemesis. For more information about this and other transtopian symbols, visit the Terminology & Iconography section. See similar questions...

Why does my snake have milky eyes?

Ultimate Reptile Suppliers
As your snake grows, it needs to shed (slough) its skin. As it approaches this event, the old skin moves away from the body. Snakes have no eyelids and instead a spectacle scale covers the eye. This needs to come away with the rest of the skin when the animal sheds. This is why just before it sheds, the skin looks dull and the eye becomes milky. This will clear again just before the skin comes off and after the slough, a clear spectacle is revealed once again. This is a normal process. See similar questions...

How does aging affect the skin?

Skin Care FAQ
With age the amount of subcutaneous (under-the-skin) fat is reduced resulting in a looser look to the skin. Skin sags because of a loss of collagen and elastin, proteins responsible for the skin's elasticity, tone and texture. Collagen forms the structural network of our skin and gives skin its strength and durability. Elastin is similar to collagen but is a more stretchable protein that maintains the skin's elasticity. It provides the matrix that holds individual skin cells in place. See similar questions...
