Yes. Kaleidescape Players and Readers are only able to read Region 1 DVDs as shipped. The installer can use the Web Utility to set these components to any other region, but it is not possible to set them to be region-free, and you can only change the region of a given component up to four times. These restrictions are dictated by Kaleidescape's CSS License Agreement with the DVD Copy Control Association, Inc. You can have multiple Players and Readers in the same System set to different regions.

Kino DVDs are "region-one", intended for use in North America. They are recorded, however, in NTSC format. Customers outside of North America may need a multi-system television and DVD player.

To play DVDs in Windows Media Player (version 9, 10 or 11) you need a MPEG-2 decoder that is capable of decoding DVD video and is also compatible with WMP. The K-Lite Codec Pack contains a compatible decoder. Some examples of compatible decoders are: Cyberlink, DScaler5, InterVideo, MainConcept and nVidia PureVideo. Unless otherwise stated in the item description, all of our DVD's are encoded for play in at least Region 1 (sometimes 2 & 4 also), which is the North American DVD region. We do have a few Japanese import DVD's that are encoded for Region 2, which is Japan and Europe. Also, all of our DVD's are NTSC video format, as opposed to PAL format commonly used in Europe. If you are in the US, all of our DVD's will work just fine in your DVD player except for those few imports that are region 2.

If a DVD is not recognized, you can enter the information yourself using the Web Utility. If this DVD is later recognized by the Kaleidescape Movie Guide Service, then the Kaleidescape information will overwrite the information you entered. Once a DVD is recognized by the Movie Guide Service, you can however edit any of the information about the DVD- for example, you can assign a different parental control rating.

DVDs are region protected, which means that players in Region 1 (US/Canada) can't play DVDs from other regions (Japan, Europe, etc). That depends on the game. If the game is meant to be played with one CARD like Mario Cart or Bomberman than 2 to 4 people can play with one card, BUT if the games is made like V-Rally 3 you have to have a Flash Card for every player... Just look at the game boxes in a shop.
