Why does your car use a Superchip ECU and a Unichip piggyback ECU?

The Unichip piggy back ECU is an extremely mappable device. The garage that rolling road tuned the car were experts tuning the Unichip. It was not easy to change the rev limit of the standard FIAT ECU using the piggy back unit without swapping a timing crystal. It was far easier to get another Superchip blown with rev limit removed and use the piggy back to set the rev limit.
