The Australian Government is committed to addressing the care needs of older Australians by providing a range of care options. Programs are designed to give older people the opportunity to stay in their homes and to live independently in the community.

Eligibility for aged care needs to be decided before applying to become a resident in an aged care home. Assessment is undertaken by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). In Victoria ACATs are called Aged Care Assessment Services (ACAS). Aged Care Assessment Team assessments are free and approvals are valid for 12 months.

Residential aged care is available for frail older people who cannot live at home. If you are a resident of an Australian Government funded aged care home, this means that the Government assists with the cost of your care and accommodation services.

The decision to move into residential aged care or residential respite care is a significant one. It is important to choose an aged care home that meets your care needs and preferences, including, for example, the location of the aged care home, or the type of care it provides such as dementia care. Sometimes a homebrew supply will have some old hops sitting around. Health food stores are known for having sometimes very old hops. You can age them yourself (2.5-3 years is good). A few brewers have had good success with artificially aging the hops by baking them at 200-300 degrees (F) for 1/2 to 1 hour, then leaving them in the open for a few days.
