Several L.L.Bean salesclerks prefer to use butane cartridge stoves in the summer. Butane is light, clean and requires no pumping or priming to produce an instant flame. You simply plug a cartridge into your stove, turn it on and light it. During the colder months, many use white gas or unleaded fuel. The fuel is inexpensive and produces a lot of heat, which is critical during winter when campers melt snow for drinking water.

Fuel injection is not necessarily any more complicated than a carburetor. It may seem more complicated to a novice fuel injection enthusiast, but in reality, carburetors can be more complex. A typical Holley carburetor has over 120 possible adjustments. A stock TPI intake has only three items which can be adjusted, both of which are on the throttle body (throttle position sensor, idle air control valve, and minimum air screw).

Besides throttle bodies, linkage and manifold (if required) typical components are; A management system , wiring loom, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, fuel injectors, appropriate plumbing, air horns and a ducting/filtration system for the incoming air.

You're right in believing that fuel injection is complicated. Factory engineers and technicians spent thousands of hours "mapping" your car's engine computer (ECU). Your ECU includes numerous fuel maps to deal with a wide variety of load and environmental situations. The signals sent to your fuel injectors are the result of all this knowledge. Rather than pretend we can create a better map, we let your ECU calculate the load, and temperature, and price of coffee at Starbucks.

If your vehicle is equipped with factory fuel injection stay with it. We offer several upgrades to make it perform better. We currently do not recommend after market fuel injection systems. They are over complicated, over rated, over priced and prone to failure. NASCAR and NHRA still run carbs. Our experience and a number of independent racers will tell you that their is no real gain in power. The injection system is usually better on emissions and thats why big government secretly pushes it.

There is no comparison. The WhiTek ECS will run any Harley engine, Sportster to EVO, stock to stroker, normally aspirated or supercharged. It will work with any cam, displacement, or compression ratio. It includes a control/display unit that is used to adjust it while riding. It is easy to install, and results in a neat, clean installation, since all of the components are contained in one unit.

Edelbrock and Accel have multi-port fuel injection (MPFI) systems, however the Accel must be tuned with a laptop PC. These are quite expensive though. Force Fuel Engineering in Florida can handle a conversion if you send them your manifold. They recommend an open plenum manifold, but they can do 180 degree manifolds, too.

Alcohol is very corrosive and, unless you are prepared to constantly maintain your fuel system, we do not recommend it. Larger injectors and fuel pump are required due to the additional flow required.

There are many types of mechanical injection systems on the market today and all work based upon the same principles. They allow air into the engine based upon the throttle body sizing and at the same time the mechanical pump speed dictates the amount of fuel sent to the barrel valve. The barrel valve, working in relation to the throttle body blade position and main pill size, dictates the amount and pressure of fuel sent to the intake injector bodies.

To heat the air, the burners are fueled by propane gas, much the same as you probably use in your backyard barbecue grill. The burners do not run continuously; they are only used intermittently to heat the air to maintain the required lift.

Helicopters can be powered with electric motors (not recommended for the beginner as they are fairly fragile), 2-stroke glow fuel engines running a combination of methanol, nitro-methane, and synthetic oil (model airplane fuel), 2-stroke gas engines (similar to your weed eater), 4-stroke engines, and even diesel engines. Most people use a 2-stroke glow fuel engine that is designed for use in model helicopters which usually has a different carburetor and a larger area heat-sink cooling head.
