Can I import and play back DVDs other than Region 1?

Yes. Kaleidescape Players and Readers are only able to read Region 1 DVDs as shipped. The installer can use the Web Utility to set these components to any other region, but it is not possible to set them to be region-free, and you can only change the region of a given component up to four times. These restrictions are dictated by Kaleidescape's CSS License Agreement with the DVD Copy Control Association, Inc. You can have multiple Players and Readers in the same System set to different regions.

You need to be able to either change the Regional Code on your player or switch it be become 'multi-region'. If you own a PC, you can easily download software that allows you to switch between Regions. If you own a stand-alone player, it is can be slightly more difficult. Many players can be 'hacked', usually by pressing a sequence of buttons on the remote and there are many websites that list such hacks. If your player can't be hacked then you can get it chipped or modified.

Not yet. The 25Hz for PAL/SECAM is hardcoded. I'd like to get it supported, but I don't have any beta-tester yet able to receive any NTSC station. No, it doesn't. If a DVD is not recognized, you can enter the information yourself using the Web Utility. If this DVD is later recognized by the Kaleidescape Movie Guide Service, then the Kaleidescape information will overwrite the information you entered. Once a DVD is recognized by the Movie Guide Service, you can however edit any of the information about the DVD- for example, you can assign a different parental control rating.

Yes! As a general rule, all our DVDs and VIDEOS we offer are available in both PAL and NTSC. All DVDs and VIDEOS we send to USA and any other NTSC countries are automatically sent in the NTSC system, open region if it is a DVD. The few DVDs we have marked as NTSC only or PAL only on our site are often available on VHS in NTSC or PAL, same price. These are usually "A" prefix coded. Just put VHS in the special instructions section of the on-line order form for a DVD listing.

More often then not, this is caused by having a player that is capable of converting NTSC (The US TV standard) to PAL50 (The UK standard). This technology allows TV's that are incapable of NTSC/PAL60 to view US DVD's however there is a down side. The conversion drops every 5th frame or so leading to the noticeable judder. Some players handle this better then others.
