Someone asked about this the other day.  In my quest to build bowed psalteries with the very best tone I feel it best to not have the soundhole blocked in any way.  A rosette  can be pretty, but if it blocks the area of the soundhole I would think you lose some in volume.  I will only decorate around a sound hole using a carved, sandblasted, or pyrographic design.  These can in no way hinder the volume.  That soundhole is there for a reason.

That depends on the manufacturer, the species ... seemingly the day of week. We don't make our own veneers and so have no control over thickness. You should assume there will be differences in thickness between species.

A rosette weld is when you punch or drill a hole (approx. 5/16") through one place of material to weld into another piece of material. You use this type of weld when one piece overlaps another piece. All of Direct Sheetmetal’s floors weld in this way.

We do not make our products in pressure treated wood as it tends to crack and warp, due to the extra moisture content often present after the pressure treating process. There are a couple of good alternatives: Cellular PVC and Cypress. Please see Wood Choices to research these options.

Good idea in snow country, or if you're in an area where water is scarce. Think about a "rain catchment" system with a metal roof, gutters, and a holding tank.

NO! Many pet stores use cedar or pine shavings as bedding, but it is not recommended. Cedar in particular has been associated with allergies and respiratory problems in various animals, including humans and ferrets. Pine and other wood chips also produce a fair amount of dust which isn't good to breathe. Furthermore, your ferret would much rather have an old towel or T-shirt to cuddle up in. Neutering ? Yes.

Use on open grained woods is not recommended due to possible splintering on removal. Densely grained woods and those with lacquered finishes may work well, but we still recommend a test.

Sure. Vinyl siding is extremely versatile and can be used with just about any exterior building material?brick, cinder block, even natural logs and field stones. Quartersawn wood is the most dimensionally stable, but some woods like birds-eye maple must be flat-sawn for the figure to show. If you have some gorgeous or rare flat-sawn wood that you want to use, it may well be worth the risk; if it's an inexpensive piece of a common wood, you may be risking the longevity of your guitar for no good reason.

Conventional wisdom on the MIMForum is that grain orientation does not matter for bolt-on solid-body necks. For acoustics, it is traditional to use quartersawn wood. Some builders laminate flatsawn wood (face to face) to create what is in effect a quartersawn neck blank:

A You can use pretty much any type of wood as long as it has not been chemically treated with preservatives etc. Standard cordwood split one additional time is good for optimal burning/heating. Lengths the stoves can handle are as follows:

If the sign will be used outdoors you should choose a wood that holds up well outdoors. I usually use Northern White Cedar because it's harvested locally here in Northern Michigan. But Western Red Cedar, Cypress, White Oak, Walnut, and Black Cherry also are good choices for use outdoors. There are probably other species that would work just as well. Try to avoid knots because they can chip away and can throw off the accuracy of your cut when you bump into them with the router bit.
