Polyurethane is a term used to describe a wide ranging family of elastomers (any compound exhibiting the characteristics of natural rubber; stretchy and elastic.). Poly meaning "many" and "urethane" the classification of the chemical structure. Polyurethane or urethane for short, is used as a solid cast material (bushings). Polyurethane can be as soft as a rubber band or as hard as plastic.

Polyurethane foam includes two types, flexible and rigid. The flexible foams that we use are open cell foams, used for packaging and available in a wide range of densities and colors. It has the ability to absorb shock from an impact and recover it's original shape quickly. It's physical performance characteristics make it ideal for protecting fragile items.

We recommend three coats simply because it lasts longer. Three coats will leave your hardwood floors in good shape for at least 10 years barring excessive traffic and zero maintenance. The most common material used to make condoms is latex, a type of rubber with very small pores that keep sperm and the smaller HIV virus from passing through. Latex is strong but susceptible to breaking when exposed to high friction and excessive pressure. In one component heat cured systems, the polyisocyanate groups are blocked by a blocking agent, therefore, preventing it from reacting with hydroxy! groups of either polyol or moisture. On heating the system to a temperature ranging from 140°C to 180°C, the blocking agent is released and the isocyanate functionality is restored. It now reacts with hydroxyl groups to form urethane linkages. These coatings are stable at room temperature and unaffected by exposure to moisture.

Flexible polyurethane foam (FPF) is modified type of polyurethane foam that is used in areas where strength is needed. It has the unique ability to absorb shock when it is used in automobiles or shipping supplies. Other than its ability to absorb shock, flexible polyurethane is able to bear a load. It is a type of foam often used in construction and furniture manufacturing.

Polyurethane systems either cure through the reaction between organic isocyanates and hydroxyl containing compounds or contain urethane linkages in the molecular structure and dry by one of the other mentioned mechanisms. Urethane oil and alkyds are basically similar to ordinary oils and alkyds, except that the incorporation of urethane linkages into the molecules causes much larger molecules to be prepared.

Most polyurethanes are limited to continuous service temperatures to about 185°F; however, special hybrid formulations can extend that to about 400°F in many cases.

They shouldn’t. Polyurethanes which are properly formulated for outdoor exposure should last many years.
