When you have a street light outage that you need to report to CenterPoint Energy, you can report it via email, thereby eliminating a lot of “hold time” on the phone. The website address is: Give them as much information as possible, including the address and/or pole number. This information was found on their website, but some residents have reported being unable to get through. If that’s the case, you can call them at 713-923-3213.

Street lights are the responsibility of Reading Municipal Light Department. They can be reached at 781-944-1340.

Street lights are repaired by NYSEG. Using the reference number on the pole and a street address, you can contact NYSEG directly at 1-800-572-1131.

To report street light outages, please call our automated street light outage service at 574.235.5938 and leave a message with the street light outage information including the nearest address, if available, the intersection direction (e.g. at the northwest corner of Donald Street and High Street) and a contact name and number if you wish for someone to return your call. These messages are checked daily then reported to Indiana Michigan Power Company.

Street lights on wooden poles are owned by MetEd, while those on metal poles are owned by the City. All street light complaints should go to 610-655-6128. We will forward any complaints regarding MetEd facilities to them. The complaint should include an address and a pole number if there is one. The pole number generally is on two yellow tags attached to the pole.

Call Puget Sound Energy at 800-321-4123. Leave your name and phone number, location of the street light (an address closest to the light is best), and the 12-digit grid number located at eye level on the pole to expedite the repair.

The Bureau of Street Lighting in the Department of Public Works is responsible for the management of all street lighting operations in the City of Los Angeles. The Bureau constructs, repairs, operates, and replaces street lighting on public streets. The Department of Transportation, however, is responsible for repairing traffic lights.

Faults involving street lights are usually caused by the failure of the lamp or other electrical component. In a minority of cases the fault may be due to the failure of the electricity supply, vandalism or accident damage. When reporting a faulty street light, please have the following information to hand: The County Council carries out its own night inspections at a frequency of, once every four weeks in summer and once every two weeks in winter, so we may already be aware of the fault.

There are no specified hours for street lighting. The standard method of controlling the operational hours is by photo-electric cell, which switches the lamp on automatically at dusk and off at dawn. Burning hours equate to some 4,100 hours per year. In the 24 hour society in which we now live, is it considered essential to operate street lights throughout the night. This enhances security for people and property, reduces night time traffic accidents and assists emergency services.

To report a street light malfunction or outage, contact the Public Works Department at 916.625.5500 or report it online using Access Rocklin. When reporting the outage, it is helpful to have the pole's badge number (located 7 feet from the base of the pole).

We have used various techniques. The first year, we made a giant fishing pole out of swimming pool brush poles and lowered the cup on a hook over the sensor and released it. This was a very difficult task which took 3 people. In 1999 and 2000, we used an 8 ft. diameter helium balloon to lift the cup. It still took 3 people, but it was a lot easier on the arms and there was less yelling. In 2001 we broke down and rented a lift.

Before you call to report a street light, jot down the pole number. Some light poles are owned by the City but the majority are owned by Southern California Edison. Note the address where the pole is located and the cross street. Some poles are made of wood or steel and the pole numbers are approximately seven digits long with the letter "E" at the end. The pole numbers are painted on the pole or engraved on a metal tag, placed at eye-level.
