My position is that videotaping 16mm is illegal without written permission from copyright holders. This keeps me out of court, and legal. Educational film companies have been very cooperative with cin?16, and I encourage interested parties to contact distributors directly, who will gladly sell videos. CinePaint was known unofficially by many names: Gimp16, Film Gimp and Hollywood Gimp. The name was officially changed to CinePaint in March 2003, which may end the confusion. The first release of CinePaint was on the Windows platform because that happened to be released at the time of the name change. That it is Film Gimp 0.16 on some platforms and CinePaint 0.16 for Windows has no special significance beyond timing. Future versions on all platforms will be called CinePaint. Film speed definitely makes a difference. I recommend no less than 400 ISO. Although anomalies have been captured on 200 ISO I have found that most times anything lower than 400 ISO does not have the ability catch the rapid movement of the electromagnetic anomalies that we encounter. A dyed film is just as it says. The polyester is dyed in a submersion process that is absorbed into the porous material. This is the most effective way to ensure good colour and life of colour.
