We have not found any special properties or advantages of using these break-in fuels. We use and recommend regular fuel to break in engines, using the same nitro content and brand fuel that we will run in the engine when racing.

FFVs are specifically designed to run on E85. They can also run on regular unleaded gasoline or any combination of gasoline and ethanol up to 85%. Flexible Fuel Vehicles look and drive just like regular gasoline-only vehicles, but have been built with special components that are compatible with E85. FFVs have an engine control computer that recognizes the mixture of fuel so the ignition timing and fuel flow rate can be optimized for the fuel mixture being used.

FFVs usually have a sticker inside the fuel door cover with the wording "Ethanol" or "E85." Some vehicles have an emblem on the vehicle fender that identifies them as FFVs. Also, the 8th character of vehicle VIN (vehicle identification number) is a special character. The vehicle owner's manual will indicate that the vehicle is E85-compatible as well.

Route Permits for special circumstances may be obtained by registering the vehicle and paying a fee. To request a Route Permit, call or send e-mail stating the special circumstance. Route Permits are issued at the discretion of the event directors. Route Permits must be displayed on the vehicle as instructed. Permitted vehicles may NOT follow a skater. Vehicles must pull completely off the road and stop to hand items, or talk to skaters.
