What is DHCP and PPPoE ?

About Lightning DSL Service - DSL FAQ=-
DHCP and PPPoE are alternate protocols used to assign your Lightning DSL account a public IP address. In every instance where you require access to the internet, you must be assigned an IP address to exchange information with other IP hosts. Most Lightning DSL installations use DHCP to assign addresses for a leased period. Usually, you will not need to do more than plug in your modem and set up line state, before you are assigned an address.

What is DHCP?

Environment settings set by a batch file are not working.
DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol and is used to automatically configure a host during boot up on a TCP/IP network and also to change settings while the host is attached. This means that you can store all the available IP addresses in a central database along with information such as the subnet mask, gateways, DNS servers etc. The basics behind DHCP is the clients are configured to use DHCP instead of being given a static IP address. To compact your DHCP database perform the following: Note: While you stop the DHCP service, clients using DHCP to receive a TCP/IP address will not be able to start this protocol and may hang. Jetpack actually compacts DHCP.MDB into TMP.MDB, then deletes DHCP.MDB and copies TMP.MDB to DHCP.MDB! Simple :-) For more information, see Knowledge base article Q145881 at http://support.microsoft.
